just wondering,... is the food good at UCI??

There's an In-N-Out across the street.

I thought the food at the dining commons was great. They have several different entrees for every meal, and they always have fall-back options of burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, and pasta. They also have a full salad bar and an array of juices and soft drinks. Plus, it's all-you-can-eat, so you'll never go hungry. For dessert, there's always ice cream, frozen yogurt, cakes, cookies, jello, whatever you want. You have to be careful, though, because you'll put on weight if you don't stay active. I gained about 15 pounds between September and December of my first year.

Across the street, there are also a number of good options. Like coolman said, there's an In-n-Out across the street, and there's also a Jack in the Box, KFC, and Taco Bell. One of the more popular eateries lately is Lee's Sandwiches, which is open 24 hours and sells really cheap sandwiches (10" baguette for $1.75) as well as chicken wings, spring rolls, ice cream, and other random food. There's also a Persian take-out place, as well as a number of Asian restaurants. You can walk to these places in less than 5 minutes from the main campus.

Yup! there is an In-N-Out across the street, i went there for lunch and all i had to do was walk across this bridge and voila, i was there.

UCI has such a nice campus!

The food at commons is good. I eat there for pretty much all my meals. For dorm food, I think it's pretty good.

do you recommend i start off with the basic 10-meal plan?

which meal plan do you have?

depends on how much you eat. the food at UCI is pretty good, its a buffet too but it gets tiring after awhile

I'd recommend the 14 meal plan. I have the 19 and the only reason I got it is because it isn't that much more to go from 14 to 19, but overall, I rarely use more than 14 anyway. Just my personal experience.

Yeah, I had the 19 meal plan when I lived in the dorms and only once did I use all 19. The 14 meal plan is good, since that works out to two meals a day. Usually people don't make it to breakfast during the week anyway. You can just buy ceral and milk and keep it in your personal mini-fridge in your room and eat that for breakfast. Or you can sneak fruit out from lunch or dinner and eat that the next morning for breakfast.

That being said, my favorite meals were always brunch on Saturdays and Sundays.

Yackityack - do they still have "premium night" on Thursdays?

I don't know what premium night is so I think not. There are no more guess passes either. They cut them out for this year instead of raising the meal plan prices.

alicantekid- how can u sneak out food n fruits? lol
i heard that ppl deliver food to my cuzin's dorms n she doesnt have to go to common 2 eat or something like that..is that true

Deliver food to other people? You aren't technically allowed to do that but there are certainly ways to sneak out food. Pockets, purses, walking out in the middle of a large group of people. It depends on who's working at the front, but it really isn't very hard to sneak out more food than you're allowed to take out. BTW, you're allowed one piece of fruit or 2 cookies/a dessert item. Also you are allowed to take out a drink too if you have a drink container that is 32 ounces or smaller, or something like that. It doesn't really matter, You'll figure all this stuff out.

Just wear a baggy jacket and you'll be amazed what you can sneak out. My roommate once snuck out a 5-gallon tub of ice cream. Let's just say we got tired of ice cream REAL quick that afternoon.

Lol you could make a business out of that. But it would be hard to explain to ur parents getting expelled over stealing food lol

Are you guys planning on doing the Stay Over Program? You get to stay over for a night in the dorms and try the food. You can practice your food thievery at that time.

when/what is that?

I'm going. They paired me with a host already and everything.

Where can we get information about that Stay Over Program?

The stay over I am going to is for prospective Campuswide Honors kids. They sent out invitations maybe a week after I got the invite from CHP. But I think there is a similar program in the summer for all UCI students.

I signed up to host potential CHPers. Maybe I'll see ya 'round if you end up in Loma.
