Since it looks like UCI has started sending out decisions, if you are waitlisted below are some stats for the last few years. Best of luck everyone.
2018
of qualified applicants placed on the waitlist: 12422
of applicants accepting the waitlist: 6428
of applicants admitted off the waitlist: 136
2017
of qualified applicants placed on the waitlist: 9235
I also got waitlisted. I applied for a Sociology major and I have a 3.74 unweighted, 4.2(?) weighted, and a 1480 SAT. I also have a bunch of community service hours, took 5 AP classes (passed all, and 4 currently), and I went to USC for summer school. I thought I would get in but I guess it’s just really competitive this year. I would say to try to appeal if you have some other activities that’ll persuade them but if not, then wait it out.
Here’s what you do. 1) accept the waitlist, submit your case/essays if needed. (You might want to do so anyways). 2) if you have unusual circumstances not explained already in your application than would warrant an appeal, you can do so, even while on waitlist. 3) treat the waitlist as a rejection…just like the guy or girl who dumped you, chances are they aren’t comin’ back…go through the schools that do love you, the ones you have been accepted to, and accept one of them by May 1.
if on the chance that UCI does offer you a spot (won’t happen until May at the earliest) you usually have at most 5 days to accept. If you do accept, most likely you will lose any deposits (school, housing) that you put down on the school that you did accept. Also keep in ming that chances are your university-offered housing options might be limited as well if you do get off of the waitlist. Do note that last year, offers might not come until as late as June.
I was waitlisted, but I received an email today inviting me to the AAPI breakfast saying, “Congratulations on your admission to UCI and welcome to the Anteater family! Come celebrate your achievement by joining us for the Asian American Pacific Islander Welcome Breakfast on Saturday, April 20 as part of Celebrate UCI.” Is this just a mistake? I did register to attend Celebrate UCI but I put down that I wasn’t accepted so I am confused, but I’m guessing it’s just a mistake…(but hoping I can somehow get in)
Does anyone know when will be the waitlist decision? Will that be more likely no housing can provide to the students who get off from the waitlist after the waitlist decision released?
They don’t guarantee housing for admissions off the waiting list. Going over last year’s thread, some people were able to get housing while others didn’t. I guess it depends on when they were notified
According to the UC website, students will be notified of their final status at the end of the June…which makes sense because they can’t decide how many to let off the waitlist as it depends on how many people decide to enroll so we won’t know until after May 1 at least since that’s the last day to SIR…and June 1 is the last day to SIR for transfers…so we have to wait until sometime around then…
@661william: Can you elaborate on your acceptance for other students waiting to hear?
Accepted major?
CA resident, OOS or International?
Did you get an email or did you just check the portal?
