hello fellow anteaters!

are any of you planning to attend the UCI freshman summer start program?

also, i was wondering how it was like? like is it worth the time?

thanks

p.s. here's the site: Advantages

im thinking about it.

Definitely go, its probably the best decision I’ve made for my education. The people pictured on the site–I know many of them. These people you will meet are your FIRST college friends.

BUT, if they recommend a class called Social Science 89 (Intro to college seminar) DONT DO THIS. I would recommend GE classes (2 classes, if your up to the challenge). Writing 39B I would suggest.

If you have questions I can try to answer them. This is seriously the best thing I have done. You will enjoy yourself. Classes are rather rough b/c you cover a huge amount of material only twice a week for 3 hours each day. Its awesome. BTW, I was the first class to go through.

^ The drama classes are theory classes lame…

I want to take 39B but it’s gonna cost me so F**ing much

any flexibility if I havea job at the same time?

whoa, thnx a lot for the info BrandoIsCool!!

well i was wondering:

other then writing 39B, what other class would you recommend? would an intro chem class be brutal?

and how is the social atmosphere there?

any flexibility if I havea job at the same time?

They do offer FA for the summer. If you qualify for the fall you should qualify for the summer. Classes are 6 hours a week for a normal 4 unit class. So its very feasible to get a job. Summer is more relaxed and most campus jobs involve sitting in front of Facebook or youtube. As for hiring, I’m unsure about the demand since there will be less people on campus. Less people, less hiring (?) Do you have work study? I don’t get FA or work study so I can’t answer specifically. Work study should help you get a job more easily, I think.

2. and how is the social atmosphere there?

Getting writing out of the way is the best thing to do. As for other classes, I would recommend GE classes. What is your major ? I would probably suggest humanities classes as they are much less rigerous than science/math classes. Have you taken AP chem ? If you have than Chem 1A would be no problem. If you haven’t, than be prepared to suck up a bunch of information–they will through material at you for 3 hours straight. A girl that did this said that they just “rushed” through the material. (5 wks only vs. 10).

Social atmosphere is DEAD in the summer. If anything at all, it gets even quieter. Weekends are dead, esp. if you don’t have a car. This was probably the only down side to summer session. However, you will have bonding moments with people in your dorm and you can always take the public bus around–BTW its free.

Hope that helps, you’re welcome!

I like to add that weekends are not as bad as people make it out to be. Its more of what will I do with my time rather than complaining of what I should be doing. I hope you don’t interpret it the wrong way!!!

^ No, I meant, like I’ll be having a JOB outside of UCI at Laguna beach, which is like less than 10 min drive if u know how to drive well.

^ You should be fine. I had 6 units (a class and an annoying seminar) w/ plenty of free time. I knew one kid who took the bus to Fashion Island/District (don’t remember which) to work at Hollister.

ahh thnks again BrandoIsCool!! =)

im going to be a bio major (asian thing) and i’m really interested in dentistry

hmm yea i think im going to consider a humanities class because chem and other sciences sound brutal especially because i didn’t take AP CHEM, but i have taken AP BIO

sounds right, i guess weekends can be ok then

and i was wondering. what else is there to do other than taking courses in the summer sessions? are there any gyms/facilities available for working out, etc.??

Yea you can go to the ARC(campus Gym) its about a 10 minute walk from Middle Earth near AV.

^ thnx tatertots

and i just did a quick online search, and found out that there is 24 Hour Fitness nearby

im guessing the ARC > 24 HR??

Arc is way better b/c its free and its only a 5-15 min walk depending on where you live. BTW where are you dorming for FSSP? Is it Arryo Vista? If it is, than a 3 min walk and your there. A 4h year bio major saw Kobe Bryant at the Arc using the same machines that he did. He even got Kobe to sign his shoe! I thought this was a rumor but apparently this guy has witnessed it! Maybe you’ll be lucky and see him there LOL

^ Is not a rumor
Kobe did go to the ARC

cause he’s that lazy to go to the official one of the LA lakers

thnx a lot guys! =D

I am biological major and want to attend the uci fssp but can some advise on what class to take. thank you

they actually list the classes recommended for certain majors on the fssp site.

I too am majoring bio sci, what classes should we take? I noticed they arent offering any bio classes for students majoring bio sci. Should i take CHEM 1P and MATH 1B? I didnt take ap chem but im sure ill get a least a 4 on calculus AB.

Opinions taking a language class during summer session?
My other alternatives are taking sociology or existentialism

[FSSP: School of Biological Sciences](http://www.summer.uci.edu/fssp/courses/bio_sci.asp)

oh just found out that u can choose any class u want however the uci counclsor have to approve it. So u can take class biology 9d and other

Any one know if we get grant money for the uci fssp program i call and ask and they tell me they only give loan
