Are we allowed to apply to UCI's honors program as a senior in high school? I know that UCR allows that through their Highlander Scholars Program but I'm wondering if it's the same for UCI.

You can qualify for UCI honors by being the top x percent of the applicant pool for your admissions period. If they want you in the Campuswide Honors Program (CHP) then they will invite you. If you don't make it the first time around, you can always apply for it during your stay in UCI. You must have a competitive GPA and strong answers for the questions you need to respond to. CHP treats you very well so take the opportunity if you receive it.

thanks! :) hopefully i'll get in first

Yup, exactly what jas0n said. I was selected for CHP upon being admitted. I'm assuming, based on my high school stats, that there's a strong emphasis on SAT scores? My GPA wasn't marvelous, extra-curriculars & essays & APs/honors weren't that impressive either. so yeahh

Invitation to the CHP is based on GPA, SAT I, and SAT II scores. I believe they notify people around now. You should definitely know by mid-February.

I think by mid-February they will invite students to come to
"UCI Honors Experience Day", which last year was Sat March 11th, so this year I'm thinking it will be Sat March 10th?

You can download a powerpoint presentation from last year's Honors Experience Day at the bottom of this page:

I found on the UCI Campuswide Honors Program (CHP) calendar that they are going to be making phone calls and writing postcards to freshmen applicants that have been invited to join CHP on Feb 20-22 from 5-8pm.

So I would think if you don't get a phone call on one of those days or a postcard shortly after that, that you have not been invited to join the honors program. But I could be wrong.

The Honors Experience Day will be held on Sat March 10, 2007.

Here is their events calendar:

Anyone know what GPA/test scores you need to have to be invited?

^ I don't think there's a set standard in terms of GPA and test scores. A friend of mine who's also in CHP didn't get a high SAT score but did have good grades. I was kind of the opposite

^ Thanks... What were the stats of you and your friend, if you don't mind sharing?

You need to be like the top 5-10% of the applicant pool to be invited to CHP. It's something like that.

^ oh yeah, your position with respect to the rest of the applicants matters too

I don't know about my friend's GPA; I just know that her high school wasn't very good and she had a bit of an advantage by going there. Her SAT score was in the 1900 range I think (which, in retrospect, is good).

My unweighted GPA in high school was something like a 3.8 (I don't know about UC GPA), SAT I score was a 2130.

^ Thanks... I'm in sort of the same situation as your friend (4.3 UC GPA but only a 29 ACT) so you've given me some hope... unless a ton of over-achievers decide to apply this year...

got the honors campus thing mail today.

if it helps: uc gpa of 3.9; sat 2190; top two sat II's: 790, 790.

i

hrhcow - what part of CA do you live in?
Congrats on being invited!

thanks.

southern california - sangabriel/pasadena area.

you live in california??

It is my daughter (I need to figure out how to take the "Jr Member" off my profile). We are in San Diego (El Cajon, so sometimes mail takes a day longer for us).

I got the mail today! Awesome. I also live in the San Gabriel/Pasadena area.

SAT-1890
SAT 2 - 790/710
ACT - 32
UC GPA 4.25

Does this mean we're accepted?

Wow, congrats everyone!

I live in Northern CA, so IF I got in (and that's a big "if," my test scores weren't that good) I'll probably have to wait till Friday.

if we get the honors invitation postcard does that mean that we are admitted to uci or still could we still be rejected???
