Hey there... I'm planning on going to either UCI or UCR. Simply because of Proximity. But I've heard from a student at UCI that it seems that they are a bit more lenient towards outside students they let into their Medical school. If that's the case... would it be better for me to go to UCR initially and do all my volunteer and research over there?

or is it that these outsiders are just better than the kids at UCI?

I know that the competition for med school is feirce pretty much no matter where you go.

ABut I've also heard that if you don't get into med school... you can do more research and get published, get a Masters or PhD and by that time they'll welcome you with open arms.

Could someone please help me?

thank you for your time.

I know UCR has a good medical program has has something to do with UCLA that you might want to look into. I also have heard that UCR is currently in the works of building a new medical facility?

Both are great schools.

Thanmks for the info Birdkiller and flemmyd,

but my family wont hear of me going to UCR. It’s either UCI or higher. And because they are going to be financially responsible for my higher education I can’t say too much on the matter. when I told them about going to the UCr/UCLA program, they said then why don’t you just go to UCLA to begin with? Why do you need UCR to get there?

I wish I could reason with them, but I am unable to.

But UCR was definitely one of my choices because I like to be away from everyone when I study.

and yeah… UCR is going to have their medical school start in 2012 if everything goes according from what I’ve heard from one of the reps that came to my school.
