Im currently attending UCSB soon to be a second year. UCI was my dream school graduating high school, but I did not get accepted. I got a C+ in Gen Chem 1C and I was wondering the chances of me getting into the nursing program in UCI. I will definitely have a GPA above 3.0 by the end of my second year. Any tips and recommendations will be grateful!

I was accepted into UCI for nursing for this fall. I will be a freshmen. I just went to my SPOP, which is what they call orientation.

I found out that they admitted 40 incoming freshmen into the nursing program for 2014 and 10 or 12 transfer students out of about 2000 applicants. They accept slightly more than that, counting on some of them to decide to go to other schools. This year they said they accepted about 80 students out of that same 2000 applicants. When the competition is that fierce, your grades had better by very high. They do place the most emphasis on grades, their words. Even then, their acceptance rate is so low, it’s essentially a crap shoot to get in. UCI even tells students to apply to other nursing schools on the website, because they admit so few students. Why? To ensure one to one attention for clinical spots in junior and senior years. They don’t want nurses with more than one student shadowing them. Again, their words.

Apply if its your dream, but apply to other schools as well. Don’t put all of your eggs in one basket.

Dracarysdaughter!
May I ask your SAT score?

@Dracarysdaughter
Hi!
I got into the nursing program, but my sister got into the biological sciences major (her first choice was nursing).
I was wondering if she would be able to transfer and how?
Any help is appreciated!(:
UCI Change of Majors:
Wow, I am really late in responding! My apologies.
@Ky5927, if memory serves, I got a 2050 on the SAT.
@amhidic First off, congratulations on getting into the SON. That is no small feat! You are one of maybe 50 students to get into that program, out of over 2000 applicants. Again, congrats.
Your sister? I’ll be honest. It will be difficult. If you’re already a UCI student, they don’t consider it a transfer, but a change of major, and they don’t allow it very often. These were their words when I went to UCI’s meet and greet about a year ago after I found out I was accepted. There were a lot of students there who didn’t get into the SON, and wanted to know their chances of changing majors. Gumbymom already posted one link, but I’m going to post this link that is directly from UCI’s School of Nursing website http://www.nursing.uci.edu/programs/bs/change-of-major/#6.
I hope it helps. Good luck to both of you!
