Hi guys,
I’m a new student at UCI and I didn’t get the guaranteed housing. Just trying to look if there is any place off campus that is near school and under $800 monthly rent. That’ll be great.
Thanks!

In Irvine, finding an apartment for $800/mo will be a challenge (if not impossible). You might get lucky and score a studio beach bungalow in Newport/Balboa, but those are hard to find. Your best bet is probably to go on CraigsList and look for a room for rent in a home in Irvine.
My son is in the same situation. He’s on the waitlist for housing. Not sure if I should try and lock in off campus housing or try and find something month to month and hope he gets in. Any advice would be appreciated.
I lived off campus my freshman year (back in the day). I had an apartment off Campus Dr. I grew up quickly, learning to cook, shop and clean for myself. Fortunately, Irvine was and is a very safe place to live.
Hi. I’m a reporter with the Orange County Register newspaper. Your issue may be related to the larger number of students who were admitted this year. I’m looking to write a follow-up story to a couple of articles we wrote last week on this issue and would appreciate speaking with students and parents now looking for other housing. I’m at rkopetman@scng.com Thank you. Roxana Kopetman
What is the Housing Office saying about local rentals?
Do all of the UCs not guarantee freshman housing??
UC’s are public universities, so they do run out of space. Those deposit timelines are crucial.
UCSD ran out of housing, and this was with making doubles into triples.
@JenJenJenJen I’m not aware of any that don’t guarantee at least one year of housing if you meet the housing deadline. It looks like this student submitted the housing app after May 1st. So waitlist students probably aren’t guaranteed housing because of that. UCI normally guarantees 2 years of housing for freshmen if you apply for it by May 1.
@“aunt bea” Was that this year that UCSD ran out of housing? Cal Poly is turning some large triples into quads this year because they got way too many acceptances like Irvine.
@youcee, no that was the year before last, and I can’t remember if that was last year as well.
