hi,

They are actually both great schools. Compsci is huge at UCI, and it has a really good program. Here's a little info I gathered as an engineering major. Companies seem to like to recruit from state schools since the state schools mainly emphasize practice and preparation for the workfield while UCs are top universities that focus more on theory to help prepare the student for research and higher education. If you don't plan on doing anything big with school, going to Cal Poly SLO may be a good way to save money.

yea, im in the same boat. cal poly SLO or uci.

i do have a question tho about my major. it says i was accepted for computer science and engineering (ICS). but i think i want engr. would it be easy to switch? when i was filling out my apps i remember not knowing which one to put so i just put my major as comp sci and engineering, and now i see they put me in ICS.

Hmm this is a new one to me. If it says compsci and eng then you are a compsci and eng major for sure. Compsci eng. have to take classes to fulfill their part as an engineer (extra math and physics classes). ICS normaly means you are under the school of information and computer science. I wouldn't worry about it at all. If anything you can easily fix it.

actuallly , this is interesting

cuz for my major i put comp sci and engineering, and in my essay i said i wanted to do computer game design down the road. and i was reading about the ICS, and i guess you have to do that to in order to take the video game design class or something. so they must have just stuck me in ICS because of that. i dunno does that make sense? im cool w/ it =) atleast im in.

I'm in the same boat as you, but I think I'm leaning towards UCI.

I would go to Cal Poly SLO for engineering, but UCI for comp. sci.

I'm in the same boat with you as well.
For me its for Bio. Sci.
Almost certain that I'll go to UCI but Cal Poly does have some advantages.
Any thoughts?

Wow, sounds exactly like me.. hahahhaa. I just found out I got into UCI last night. I also got accepted into Cal Poly SLO for Computer Science. I really don't know what to do anymore. Anyone know the campus life at Irvine?

Post #2: "Companies seem to like to recruit from state schools since the state schools mainly emphasize practice and preparation for the workfield while UCs are top universities that focus more on theory to help prepare the student for research and higher education."

No. This is wrong. Companies in California give more weight to UC graduates than to CSU graduates, especially in computer science. In some UC campus, some undergraduate programs are almost equivalent to CSU graduate programs. Cal Poly SLO is better school than other CSU campuses though.

My choices so far go like this:

University of Washington>UC Irvine> Cal Poly SLO

My business is business/econ related for all schools.
