UCI or CSULB for film/tv production program?

So I've been accepted to both schools I've mentioned in my title.
I want to become a TV producer or a screenwriter. Or, at least I think I do. Preferably with comedy. Who doesn't like comedy? I've been told I'm a pretty funny person. I think I really like the dynamics and environment of a studio or a production room. I really enjoy sitting with people, exchanging ideas and getting creative. I've always considered a career in psychology or even human resources, but I've become enamored in this field (of film) since about a year ago. If you think this is probably just a passing phase of a whimsical teenager, please don't refrain from telling me your honest opinion, as this is a big decision in my life.
Anyways, the main point of this question is whether I should attend UCI or CSULB if I want to pursue a career in this field. Which university offers the better program in production? Which would be most beneficial to my life, so that I can afford flexibility?

It is only human nature to compare and try to get the best we can, so it’s not a whimsical question at all.

I was in the exact same boat as you. I’m majoring in Film and chose Long Beach over others schools I got into (CSUN, UCI, UCSC). Not just because their film department is a more well known, but I just prefer their courses over UCI. They have tracks you can specialize in during your senior year (editing, sound, documentary, etc), I’m super into documentary film-making so that’s one of my major reasons for choosing CSULB. I’m trying to double major in studio arts as well and CSULB lets you use the same courses to satisfy both majors, while UCs do not.

After walking around CSULB and checking out their film department, I have to say, it’s pretty shabby. I even went into the equipment room to ask the guys working there what cameras and gear the department carries; old tripods and cameras. I was surprised but decided I’m not going to CSULB for their equipment. If you like good gear and a nice production rooms, check out CSUN. Their equipment is way better than CSULB, they have good funding to the film department, probably the most out of any Cal State schools.

As for your love for psychology, there’s no reason why you can’t minor in it (or double major if you are really passionate)! I think knowledge in psychology will only take you even further in your writings, it’s tremendously useful as it’s also applicable to any field. UCI is also a great school, I think you just need to check out the courses they offer in comparison to CSULB and go check out BOTH campuses! Get a feel for the department, the people, the whole dynamic of the college.
