Hi guys! Sorry too bother you all but I recently got accepted for UCI nursing and I’ve already been accepted to CSULB nursing. HOWEVER I’m completely torn between the two schools as I have to decide soon since our contracts for CSULB SON are due very soon.
I will be planning on living on campus and use financial aid/loans to pay for the tuition so money isn’t my biggest issue right now. What is my issue is which program do you guys think will be better off for me considering passing the NCLEX and finding a job asap. I have done research on both CSULB and UCI and honestly, I love both. That is why I need your guys help in deciding which one.
Also since I’m planning on living on campus I would prefer the most social environment.
Please guys, if you have any insight I would GREATLY appreciate it. I didn’t know where else to turn and I already spoke to my parents about it.
Thank you guys for your time! please help me decide if you can!!!
Are you a Freshman or transfer? Did you get a direct admit at UCI? Both schools are going to give you an excellent education and which school you attend should make no difference on your job prospects. Nurses are in demand so you should have plenty of job opportunities as a graduate from either school. Go to school you like best.
@Happy2Help Ah I see. That’s very encouraging and exciting to hear! So do you think that graduating from uci nursing rather than a CSU will lead to more offers for me after graduation?
I see you’re a transfer! Congratulations! I don’t think you would get more offers by going to one over the other. But other threads have discussed UCs over CSUs in terms of prestige. It could mean in the job market, if you went to UCI, you’d have an edge over another that finished at a CSU for the same position.
Sorry typing on phone and it posted before I finished. See the complete post above. As @Happy2Help stated, there are going to be many job opportunities no matter where you attend. If you want to work at UCI Med center, attending UCI could help. If you want to work at Long Beach Memorial, then attending CSULB may give you an advantage. I work in a hospital (not nursing) but we hire nurses from everywhere so were you attend makes little difference as long as you do well and complete the program.
@Happy2Help@Gumbymom ahh I see.thank you both agaain fot your replies. yes I am a transfer and just found out on Friday night I got into uci nursing.
Uci med center is somewhere I’m interested in working and yes I have seen countless threads that state that ucs look better on the resume than csus. I was thinking that because uci admits so few transfers each year that this would be an amazing opportunity. Even fewer than CSULB which is also very competitive and a great program.
I believe working at either uci med center or LBMH would be great but I have to admit that uci has been one of my dream schools since I moved down to california. In fact, my parents seem to be pushing uci over csulb because they believe it will benefit me in the long run when looking for a nursing job because it’s from a uc. The only downside to choosing uci is I will have to spend a couple thousand dollars to take 3 prereqs classes at uci sumer session in order to to at at the program in the fall. I am already done for csulb in terms of prereqs so I won’t have to take anything during the summer.
Btw @Gumbymom if you don’t mind, which hospital do you work at? Are they usually in need of nurses?
@Happy2Help I’m not sure what OOS is lol. cost shouldn’t be too much of a factor because i will be relying on financial aid and loans to cover the tuition costs. I just need to complete 3 more lower division classes in order to start in the fall for UCI.
You mentioned above you “… moved down to CA…” OOS is Out of state, as in, are you a resident outside of CA? The cost for non-CA residents is quite a bit for UC vs CSU as you probably know. It seems you attended a CA community college so was that as an OOS resident?
@Happy2Help oh okay. I did moved from out of state bt that was almost 3 years ago. I’m a california resident now so the tuition for both UCI and CSULb will be resident tuition
@Happy2Help yea I noticed that on their admission page I not only need to submit a SIR but a SLR as well which is for residency. Do you by chance know what it is I will need to submit?
