I am currently at a fork in the road and to make a long story short, would you suggest going to Irvine or Davis? What are your thoughts? I am planning on taking up aeronautics engineering or physics.

Here are things to consider:
Davis--
I have friends already there and also close friends planning to go there
Near home

Irvine--
Superior academics (?)
I am concerned about Irvine being a "commuter school" where many students go home for the weekend
Same laid-back atmosphere as Davis

With what you've mentioned, it's going to be an equal decision. Visit both campuses as musingmiyu says. Specific questions would help us guide your decision also. I'm a freshman on campus from NorCal so I'm sure I can answer many of your questions. Also, most of my friends went to UCD so my situation was similar to yours.

UCI!! UCI!!! hehe jk i just have a lot of ZOT ZOT pride.
The funny thing is MOST (actually, i cant even name one who chose UCI<UCD) of my friends who go to davis got rejected from UCI. heeehe.

bottom line in all seriousness, visit both campuses. do it during spring break

Nagare: I think you hit the nail on the head with the commuter school thing. Davis is a school to which people go from other places. When I visited UCI, I thought that campus seemed kind of dull, as in a way the UCD campus does to me. But the difference is it seems that Davis folks are there to be there and you will therefore have more of the college experience as a result.

Both are good schools otherwise. What do you want to study?

Well socal is kinda right, besides Davis itself, there really isn't much around Davis. Theres Sacramento (if you like that) and SF about 1hr away. However, they do have a great all you can eat sushi but you have to get in line at 10am when it opens at 11:30 @_@.

Irvine, is close to new port and theres a quite a few things you can do downtown. Close to the beach, 1 hr away from LA (depending on traffic).

Davis does seem to be more of a "college town" than irvine, actually it IS a college town.
