UCI or UCLA?

Hi everyone,

I'm already a sophomore at UCI. I was pretty lazy in high school, so I didn't get in anywhere except here and UCR, but now I'm much more motivated. I recently applied and was accepted to UCLA as a UC-transfer student. I initially applied there because I took a summer school course there last summer and loved it, but I didn't really think that I would get in (let alone transfer). But now that I'm reading through all of your transfer threads about UCB, I'm really dissapointed that I didn't apply there! Here's my info:

UC GPA: 3.771
-Completed all UC Breadth requirements.
-Double-majoring in Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) and Mathematics.
-Tutor both Linear Algebra w/Infinite Series and Multivariable Calculus

I was accepted as a CSE major at UCLA, which I think is pretty impressive considering they only admitted 34/232 transfer applicants to that major last year. I just want everyone's input on just HOW MUCH better would UCLA be for a CSE major? Incindentally, CSE is the same as "Computer Engineering" at UCLA. Oh, and, do you guys think that I would've been accepted to UCB? Please say no ; ) Thanks all!

pick ucla..hands down

pick the college you want

First of all, congratulations to being accepted to UCLA. Obviously UCLA has more name recognition, and their CSE program ranks I believe top 15 in the nation. So if you're making you decision solely based on major, I would choose UCLA. As for UCB, you probably had a good chance for EECS. I applied from UCSD to UCLA (CE) and UCB (EECS), and got into both.

UC GPA: 3.84
All LD, UD GE's done
All LD's for major, except CS61A can only be taken at CAL, done
Rushed Essays, (did my application in 2 days)

So if you had some great essays, you probably would have been accepted. Anyways, congratulations, and you and I have proved that Intercampus Transferring is Possible!

Hi dicky_01,

I actually did the same thing you did. My friend just suggested that I apply as a transfer a week before the apps were due. I was almost certain that I wouldn't be accepted, now I'm just wondering about UCB haha.

pick UCB!!!!!!!!!!!1

He didn't even apply there...

Hey magic, first of all, congratulations on the acceptance! I actually have a question for you, if by chance you could help me out. I'll be transferring to UCI as a sophomore this fall, and I also decided to apply for UCLA as a junior transfer. I personally enjoy UCI, but the I just want to take the opportunity of applying to UCLA as closure for my rejection in high school.

I know about UC reciprocity, that for a fact, the completion of UCI GE-breadth allows an exemption from UCLA's GE requirements. Do you have any idea if this would apply to all courses in general (i.e. major prep, all low-div, all upper-div, etc.)? I would be totally surprised if I get accepted but will be disappointed if I'd have to retake courses and graduate later than planned.

It's alright if you're unsure, but I wanted to ask since i haven't seen many intercampus UC transfers. :)

Hi Aerolite,

I'm actually going to meet with a UCLA counselor next friday, I'll let you know what courses transfer.
