Can anyone tell me what’s the difference between the two UCI Psychology majors (Psychology and Psychology and Social Behavior)? Both have different transfer requirements so I just to make sure I am following the one that is better suited for me and is better for job searching after graduation. I don’t really know which one to choose, so I need a little help and possibly a suggestion to what would be more interesting. Thank you!
“Psychology and Social Behavior” is under the School of Social Ecology, which also contains Criminology and Urban Planning. Thus, it is less scientifically focused (though I believe both majors give you a B.A.) and contains more “social aspects” and real world aspects while the basic Psychology major should be filed under School of Biology (not too sure) and will have more mathematical and science requirements.
I know people who are interested in the more scientific side, research based and brain science side of psychology who are applying to UCI for the regular psychology degree. I am applying for psych and social behavior and a few people I know who went that route did so in order to pursue graduate programs and then careers as psychologists, LMFTs LPPCs etc. So it depends on what your plans are for after graduation with the bachelors degree. That said, I’m no UCI expert and if anyone has any input to add or corrections to make to what I know to be true then please have at. I’m wondering now what the PSB program at UCI is like and if it is the best fit. I plan to go onto a clinical psych graduate program, or maybe even social work so I’m looking at some of the CSUs as well. UCI does have a good program from what I have heard, and I hear that even a PSB student at UCI will probably have more research experience than a student at a CSU, and that can help a lot in graduate school.
