perhaps i haven’t been paying close attention, or has UCI jumped in the rankings in the past 3 or 4 years? I went there this summer for an interenship, and i got the impression that it was a good school. However, i was suprised by this year’s US news rankings that put UCI in the top 10 public schools in the nation and ahead of Illinois, which i know is very prestigious. i always thought that UCI was ranked closer to Davis. has UCI increased its reputation, Davis decreased its reputaton, or have i just not been paying enough attention?

Meh those schools are all about the same...go to the one that you like best: best atmosphere, pricetag, location.

Davis went down due to a reporting error, so yeah Davis, SB, and Irvine are ranked pretty much the same, However each of those schools is on the rise :-)

As far as I know, Irvine and Davis have both been rising in rankings in recent years. If it wasn't for this year's reporting error(read http://www.californiaaggie.com/article/?id=10027 ), Irvine and Davis would likely have virtually the same overall rankings. So, the short answer is yes and no. Yes, Irvine is increasing in reputation(and Davis likewise). And no, Davis has not decreased in reputation.

UC Irvine has made great strides in moving up the ranks. Part of this is due to their strategic plan of becoming a flagship campus (like UCLA and UCB) within the next 10 years. (You san search their press release about this). They are making a huge effort to increase all aspects of the campus from resurrecting the baseball program, adding housing (the Vista Del Campo complex is extremely popular) and continuing to bring in top notch faculty.

Considering it is the youngest school (excluding Merced), it has shot up in the rankings. Davis and Irvine are generally ranked the same (nationality, between 40 and 48), but Irvine has done this in about 1/2 the time Davis has. Remember, Davis has been around for almost 100 years, while Irvine has only been around for 40 years.

I believe the social scene and athletics program have been improving and if they continue to do so, I could see them overtake UCSD in the rankings as the third highest ranking UC school.

Yeah...go to the one you like best...personally I go to UCI and am certainly enjoying my time here...but go to whichever one you like the best and don't get all caught up in the ranking system.

Pretty much every UC is growing very rapidly.
