Uci rejected?!

Right now i am so confused about UC's at the moment. I currently got accepted to UCD,UCR, and UCSB. I had gotten waitlisted at UCSD, but i got rejected to UCI!! Not even waitlisted! Why is that? I know my friends that went to the same school as me and I am overall better on paper but he has gotten accepted to UCI.
This is basically my Application:

W GPA: 3.96
ACT: 27
UC Rank: 5/66
EC:
Wrestling for 4 years, 2 years Varsity Wrestling and 2 years Varsity Captain.
JROTC for 2 years, currently one of the top ranked cadets at my school.
1 year Varsity Swim
President of California Scholarship Federation
President of Beta Club
Secretary of Key Club

Please someone help!

I think it is all about the holistic admissions this year. Only the really top stats kids that will probably go to ivys anyway got in to most campuses. I think the UCSC thread has a link somewhere to how they score applications. Something like 50% is your stats and 50% is other things. They seem to be giving lots of weight to low income, probably to suck more money from the state. You have some great choices though, I see lots of people waitlisted everywhere.

I wasn’t expecting to be rejected from UCI, either. I got accepted to UCSD and UCSB and rejected from UCI, UCD, and UCLA. Berkeley hasn’t released decisions yet, but I’m sure I’ll be rejected there, too.

I’m thankful that I got into UCSD, though. I heard from UCI after my UCSD acceptance, but if I had heard from UCI earlier, I would have been really worried.

UW GPA: 3.1
UC GPA: 3.6
SAT: 2250

Your so lucky I got rejected from all of them. What major did you apply as?

collegeuser12 I applied different kinds of majors for the UC’s kinda thinking that maybe going for majors that arent as hard will help me get into the school easier and if i don’t like the major later on just change my major than. yes, i really am lucky on being able to get into these UC’s but i’ve been hearing from kids that UC’s talk to each other and UCI knew that I got into the better UC’s so they didn’t even consider me at all. Also, I heard that the UC’s such as irvine don’t accept “over qualified” applicants because they know that they will get into better schools and they don’t want to waste space for people that actually want to go to irvine. Is this true?

@collegeuser12

I applied as International Studies for all of my colleges.

@dannykim

Aren’t UCs not allowed to share their admission decisions with each other? I HAVE heard numerous times that UCs do tend to turn down “overqualified” applicants, though.

Ya I have also heard that they do talk to other UC’s about the applicant. That’s crazy that each year is getting harder to get into places.

@collegeuser what was you GPA and sat score if you don’t mind me asking ( I am a junior right now)

Does applying for a lower major and then changing it to a better major work? Doesn’t that make you go to school for a year longer? Like could you apply as a communication major and then switch to biochemistry?

@jleemd21, I had a 3.96 or 3.97 (not sure) and a 1750 Sat (kinda low) and a ton of work like 20 hours a week. and some ecs like history day, math team etc but I got rejected from all the UC’s. As far as communication to biochem…take my advice as a student who regrets some choices… unless you are over qualified I wouldn’t apply as biochem (because thats what I and a bunch of my friends chose and we all got rejected except for one person with a 4.5 GPA). You can only switch if the major is non-impacted and bio usually is though. But its easier to get into communications. I would apply for something you are better qualified for though because I took 2 years of chem (Ap + regular) but only regular bio so I think that also hurt me. :frowning: Wish me luck on my appeal.

@collegeuser dude that’s insane man! That really blows you did not get into a uc with your GPA. How do you know if the major is impacted and what does that mean?

@jleemd21 We’ll when I submitted my app and didn’t get a response from Irvine until the 23rd then I got worried so i tried to switch majors online and it showed me those impacted majors. Trust me bro, apply for criminology or something but if you really want to do biochem and its impacted then you might not be able to switch. :frowning: feel like my hs was a waste.
