Essays: I think my essays were pretty good. I wrote about my experiences in my extracurricular activities and my interest in fashion (for the creativity prompt), but I think the essay that made me really shine the most was how I talked about my struggle as a gay man with a conservative upbringing.
This is my first college decision (and acceptance) so far.
My best advice to upcoming applicants is to just be yourself in the college process. Donāt worry too much about stats or trying to impress officers. I think that my biggest strength in my application was my essay since I really showed my admissions officers who I am as a person, and I believe that the essay is the main part of the application that can help you stand out among your peers. Donāt get me wrong, test scores and GPA are important, but donāt stress yourself over bad stats.

State (if domestic applicant): CA
Country (if international applicant):
School Type: small private Christian high school
Ethnicity: White (decline to state)

Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.):
Reflection
Strengths: depth and leadership in music; doing things in music beyond what was available at my school, especially my songwriting
Weaknesses: SAT; some kids took more AP than I did.
Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Strength of audition plus above average academics; strength of EC in my major area; recs if they read them. Worked to sound like a real person in my UC essays.
Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted Chapman, CSUF, Cal Poly Pomona; waiting on USC, UCLA, Pepperdine, CSULB, CSUN, other UCs but they did not require music auditions so I am not likely to attend.
Will choose UCLA or USC over UCI if I get in. Passed prescreens to get live auditions at USC and UCLA and passed academic prescreen at UCLA too.
