UCI Summer Session

anyone doing UCI summer session?

According to UC Irvine’s statistics, over half of the undergrads took summer courses at one time or another. I took one last summer.

I may do summer session just NOT at UCI, prices are a little ridiculous and I could get 1 GE done at CC for far less of the price.

Maybe for upper division I will… but like to just take math or something, F that… I can take that at Orange community college

:)

I have to agree that the prices, relative to regular quarters, for summer sessions seems a bit expensive. For a 4 unit course, I had to pay $800 not to mention room and board during the summer (you can no longer live in Mesa Court and Middle Earth after your freshmen spring quarter).

The only reason why I took that one course during the summer was to avoid a “bottleneck” during the next academic year as that one course prevented me from taking several courses required for my majors.

Has anyone taken o-chem over the summer? do you recommend it? It will be my first time taking it, and I keep hearing mixed responses from people.

If you want to get rid of GEs, I recommend to take those at local community colleges where it’s much more affordable. However, the GPA doesn’t count. Only the credit is transferrable.

So if I get a C on a GE course at a community college, it won’t show up as a C on my UCI transcript/GPA?

Or see if your school allows you to knock off some lower division requirements for the major at a CC. Some might see taking GE’s at UCI to boost GPA a valid idea.

If you get a C on a GE at a CC, you will get transfer credit, but it will not count towards your UCI GPA. However, I believe the grade still SHOWS on your transcript.

If you’re interested in grad school, try your best even in GE courses at CC’s.

UCI Summer Session unit fees for UCI and UC students are the same in the summer as they are during fall, winter, and spring. If you take a regular course load during the year and determine the cost per unit, the per unit fee will be the same for summer courses.
