Last Fall (2015), I started out at an out of state university. From there I have 16 credits.
Before that, I had concurrent credit from another out of state university (approx. 43 credits).
Starting this past Spring (2016), I moved to a CCC (long story). Currently, I have 16 credits, and am registered for the coming semester.
I plan on applying to UCI’s TAG program. I meet all of the requirements. My only issue is whether or not they will accept my out of state credit (where my English and Math credits are from).
Looks like you need at least 30 credits from a CA CC to be eligible to apply through TAG. You are still eligible to apply to transfer, just not through TAG.
Good luck.
Well, at the end of this semester I will have 30 credits from a CCC. And by the end of Spring 2017, I’ll have 45 credits. I’m just curious if my out-of-state English and math will qualify for TAG. Thank you for helping though!
email or call Irvine to check, although you might be in a bit of a bind. Typically UCs only evaluate xfer credit from non-CCC schools after you are accepted, but you need credit for these classes in order to be eligible for TAG.
Unfortunately @NCalRent is correct and you don’t qualify for TAG. Having 30 CCC units completed by December is not the same as having 30 CCC units by September.
You need 30 CCC units completed by the end of the TAG filing period–so the unit requirement is taken from your completed units on September 30th.
I’m not sure the OP doesn’t qualify since the TAG link above has some ambiguity.
It isn’t clear to me whether they are talking about needing 30 units for the TAG to be approved or merely submitted. I’m leaning towards “approved” because later they have a matrix with the heading “Minimum UC transferable units completed to submit a TAG” and everyone says 30 semester units. Had they meant that those 30 must be completed at a CCC the heading could have said so; actually Davis is the only campus in the notes to specify CCC units.
I’ll admit I’m not certain of this. The OP should check with UCI to see if she/he is eligible to submit a TAG. If you do so, let us know what you find out!
To follow up on this, the admissions office in Davis clarified with the following: the 30 completed unit TAG application requirement is calculated respective to the past academic year from the application so everything must be completed by the start of the application year.
This means that if your applying for the 2017-2018 academic year (Fall 2017) via the Fall 2016 TAG application, then at least 30 of your units must be dated and identified complete by the end of the 2015-2016 academic year which subsequently is the 2016 summer academic term.
2017-2018 AY = FA17 -> WI18 -> SP18 -> SU18
2016-2017 AY = FA16 -> WI17 -> SP17 -> SU17
2015-2016 AY = FA15 -> WI16 -> SP16 -> SU16
By extension of that definition, an incomplete during the Spring and/or Summer prior to the application year cannot be retroactively finished to meet the 30 completed unit requirement.
Thank you all for your help! I do have an appointment with Irvine to discuss this. The TAG seems to be ambiguous in some sense. I’ll let you know what I find out!
