yeah, thats correct. im trying to transfer from UCI, but not because its a bad school. sure, its not one of the top UCs, but its pretty good compared to other schools in the nation.

my original reason for transfer is to complete a program at a school that is actually accredited. UCI has something similar to what i want, but not exactly so thats why i wanted to transfer. Now, after taking several of my major classes, im not so sure i want to continue. If i am accepted for my alternative major, ill go, but if i get accepted to my first choice major for LA, ill have to think about it. I applied for a different major for Cal, so if im accepted, there's a good chance ill go (along with a big drop in my GPA lol).

Why is that? Does it take anything away from you personally? Does it some how undermine your accomplishment?

People will do whatever the heck they want to do. If I listened to anything I heard on these boards, I'd be saying "YEAH! UCLA/UCB #1, all the other UC's can suck it!"

Fact of the matter is, I think you're upset because you're buying into the whole prestige concept of a school. And if said school were to somehow lose prestige, that means you do too?

well the way i perceive is dat the FACTS state UCI is tier 2 yet people like anchor go out of their way to belittle it to a Tier 3 school without proper rational and reason

does that kill my ego personally, yes, somewhat bcuz i might be going to UCI but its just that UCI has achieved a lot and den der r people like u who just ignore all dat and label it as a trash school

u even said urself, "y woudl any1 wanna go to this low tier commuter school"

of course i am gonna take taht presonally espeically if i might be attending

Actually I just think it is rude to the people that aspire or already go to UCI to belittle their school. I myself only want to attend UCB or UCLA I did not even really consider going to UCI. But Thank you very much for telling me how I feel I really appreciate it.

why do I hate it when people belittle UCI? I go there. when you tell me uci is bad, you saying im bad and that everything i worked for in the last 2 years is a waste.

lol why do people have such small egos?
i dont really care for irvine but telling people who go there that their school sucks is such a dick thing to do.

besides if you people *****ing about how crappy irvine is were really that bright you would be at an ivy league or equivalent

I love how people are so sensitive on university's prestige/ranking, especially when it comes to undergraduate education.

According to that, UCD IS ranked higher than UCI (If only slightly). So yeah, keep thinking that your Tier 3 commuter school is better than the ONLY UC that provides the "College Town" experience, and staff that actively participates on these boards...

By your definition of a "tier" (seeing how you seem to determine tiers by numerical rankings only):

1st tier: UC Berkeley
2nd tier: UCLA
3rd tier: UCSD
4th tier: UC Davis
5th tier: UC Irvine/Santa Barbara
6th tier: you know the rest

The problem with your definition or method of "tier" is the fact that the difference between each of your tiers in rankings is so small such that it is very volatile year to year. You have to determine which university belongs to what tier based on the history of rankings, not the current rankings, else you'll have to say that UCD is the 3rd or 4th or 5th tier next year just because it moved down by two or three places -_-

When we say "tier", we do not mean "placement".

That said though, other people here like Guyy needs to cool down and realize that most people will look at what you did at your university, than what university you went to. This ain't South Korea. Focus on YOUR courses, work, and education, not what the university is doing or standing. If at anything, your ego should inflate or deflate based on your GPA and achievements.

Anchor, I hope you didn't decide to apply to UCI as transfer just because of US News and Report's ranking. If so, you may get a rude surprise in the next two years.

"That said though, other people here like Guyy needs to cool down and realize that most people will look at what you did at your university, than what university you went to."

that is exactly my point. people dont see what i did or accomplished because they cant look past the fact that i go to uci. when people ask i tell them i do this and that, but they just dont see the significance because i did all those things at uci. for example, to most of the people i know research at uci is worse than no research at ucla or cal. i dont get it.

Depends who you're talking to. To me, the only people who'll look into my undergraduate accomplishments that I'll care about are graduate admission officers and professors.

Anyways, you're still a 2nd year, don't sweat too much about this. Do your best, stop ranting or putting yourself down, and focus more about yourself.

Nope, I only applied to the schools that I liked after having visited the campuses. Did not apply to a SINGLE campus based on reputation...

I did not apply to UCI. :D

I'm actually just working within the construct of "tiers" as defined by our own CC'ers. I'm well aware that it's far from accurate (or even remotely correct).

Disengage: Have you been accepted anywhere yet?
Cause I just can't wrap my head around how someone with the atrocious grammar and spelling that you have can even be considered for acceptance at ANY school.

Everyone needs to calm the hell down.
Undergraduate studies are not what will make or break your lives. I mean, I'm planning on going to law school after I finish my BA and that's when I will definitely care about prestige. I can settle for a "2nd tier" UC school and be fine with that right now for my BA. In most cases, a BA is not going to earn you the 6 figure salary you need to live in California. Education is education is education.

Honestly though, think about it this way. We (most of us) live in California. Everyone and their mother know about the UC system and just by saying, " I went to UC ...." they congratulate you on your successes, because in truth, IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER!

So what if you go to LA or Berkeley; good job for getting stellar grades. But for every bum and every slacker that I know that has attended UCR and UCSC, there is an equal amount of slackers that have attended UCLA or Berkeley.

It's all about a name. It's all about prestige. It's all about telling your friends that you just got a brand new LAMBORGHINI as opposed to the brand new LEXUS.

We are dealing with high caliber schools that are very similar in education and I think we should respect that and stop acting like high school seniors who want to know what you got on your SATs and where you applied and then secretly make admission decisions or judgments based on your stats and where you applied.

This board has made me feel really bad about myself; as if I slacked off like crazy in a Community College just to go to a "2nd tier" school or GOD FORBID a CSU. But I didn't slack off and I feel good about going to a UC no matter where I get accepted because this board is not the real world. You are not my employers who are going to judge me on whether I attended UCI or UCB. You are not even the majority at my CCC who just want to get into CSUN. You are like the AP classes in high school that always tried to one up the score I got on the test.

Juvenile and ridiculous.

I'm not saying this about everyone on the board. I am just making a generalization based on the few that have outwardly said that it's not worth it to go to CCC and then transfer to a "2nd tier" UC and that the ultimate goal is LA or Berk.

And just because some of you are seriously retarded in your views (RCHANG) I still love you like a fellow CCer. :)

to the poster that thought UCI was "easy to get into"...the acceptance rate for freshman is about 48.5%, making it the 4th most selective UC.
For transfers, I dont know. UCI is a "2nd tier" UC so most of its stats are similar to the other 2nd tier UC's, and to anchor, I didnt know ANYONE with a 3.0 who got into UCI. I knew someone who had a 3.2 and a 2210 on the SAT and they still didnt get in.

I think that when we are talking about any UC besides UCLA and UCB, we need to consider the rankings of the department. If you are studying BIO, then UCD is much more regarded than UCI. Computer Science, probably the other way around. Even UCSC has some fields for which they are tops in their field...
