UCI Transfer 2013 Decisions

@fuzzyducky22 me too… me too. I’m in the same boat at you. :(

edit* But don’t lose hope! There’s still time!

@fuzzyducky exaaaaaaaaactly…I don’t get how these things happen lol.

It’s so unfair! :frowning: I see so many people in the UCSD thread and this thread getting in with way lower GPAs than me. If I don’t get into UCI or UCSD, I’m definitely going to call/appeal. This is so unfair.
Happened to me in high school… had a 3.9GPA, 1940SAT, a ton of ECs, a good personal statement, and got rejected to UCI…

UC system is not entirely about grades & SAT scores. That’s why there are personal statements. They look for a well-rounded person and one that will positively impact their campus

why can’t someone that works hard at what they do be well rounded? I know people that had limited time because of academics and got 4.0’s does that make them not well rounded? its sorta unfair imo

@daizee7 I agree, but with a good GPA, good SATs, a good personal statement, clubs, volunteer work, and a job, I didn’t see how I wasn’t “well rounded” enough for them in high school.

In a sense yes it is unfair. However, that is just in school. What about the community, what service(s) has one done to broaden his/her perspective on the world around them, how can one influence and aid a school that is already diversely rich?

@fuzzyducky I totally understand where you are coming from I was a similar student. I only use the term well rounded because as I went to a UC transfer seminar they kept throwing it out there

@ fuzzyducky22

Don’t be that way, you have excellent stats! Our nerves are frazzled, and you’re forgetting CCC transfer will ALWAYS have priority, or else we’d never have a chance…plus the California legislature said so. Now is not the time to be upset that lower GPA’s are getting in, its a chance for you to show your beautiful character! Be happy for them, and wait your turn, because you are a force to be reckoned with. UC to UC transfers are tough and rare, and you are a serious contender! Either way, you are in the position that we all envy… You are in a UC, and always have been.

it depends though, School at times can take a large amount of your free time, i had a few friends who pretty much spent all their time to get their grades. So while outside stuff is good it almost penalizes people for having high grades due to lack of time for those activities. You know what I mean?
I totally agree though, I am an Eagle Scout I did two sports and a took college language classes while in high school hahaha. didn’t help me for freshman application and it seems like it will haunt me for junior haha since of of the classes was Japanese and i had limited time so i got a C which along with a wr class i took that summer dropped me a full .6 in my gpa haha which sucks

@UCDrone Thanks for your optimism  Yea I’m totally happy for everyone else! I know how happy it must be to be accepted! But it’s just a little discouraging  I’m just jealous because I so desperately want to go to UCI T__T

I kinda wish i was in your position fuzzy you have a way better chance than I. Im also worried that if im rejected its because they think i dont have enough units I did send a message though but their reply was sorta weird since my actual unit count was 45 with the planned courses and completed ones so i said
“I wanted to make sure that I made it clear I was using AP
credit to reach the units required for a junior transfer as
well as IGETC.”
they replied with
“Your application includes your AP exam
scores/credit. Thank you for contacting us.” It sounds kinda like they thought i was talking about like the subject credit but im actually talking about it counting towards my 60 total aha

@ fuzzyducky22

You have no need to be jealous, LOL :)

You have a great network of friends and a boyfriend just waiting and cheering you on at UCI. Just be patient, and didn’t you apply to UCSD as well? Send positive vibes, and good things will happen to you. Plus, anxiety causes wrinkles :)

@fuzzyducky22

I know exactly how you feel. In high school, I had a 4.43 weighted GPA, a 2130 on the SAT, and I even captained the varsity lacrosse team, but I got rejected from EVERY school I applied to. I saw a girl in my grade who had a lower SAT score than me get into Yale, and I didn’t get into schools like UC Davis, UCI, and Cal Poly SLO.

@UCDrone Yes I applied to UCSD! But no housing message update  (But for some reason I am able to authorize a payer?) So I’m a little discouraged by that as well. But thank you for the positivity  I really hope you’re right!

@Beijing Wow! You didn’t get into anywhere with those amazing grades?! They’re crazy for not accepting you!! But hopefully this time around, things are better! Have you heard anything back yet?

i don’t have the best GPA out of those that got in, but i hope my ECs and my personal statement are strong enough to get me into UCI. i’ve never had any higher hopes for a school until i applied to UCI as a PSB major and it’s the top choice in my eyes.

Im hoping my personal statement doesnt weigh too much because i dont think mine was very good because I didnt have anything to write about in the 6 months i had been out of high school

Heyyyy how about we don’t start dismissing other people’s acceptances to schools just because you have higher GPAs… you are not the ones judging who deserves to go to a certain school and who doesn’t. We are all strangers to each other and you have no idea what any of these other people put on their applications that deserved an acceptance… GPA is by far NOT the only factor taken into consideration. Tons of applicants have GPAs similar to your own, but each person stands out in a different way according to things that a GPA can’t tell you. Be happy for people who got in, and wait patiently for your decision to come out. Don’t just assume you’re entitled to an acceptance just because you have a higher GPA than other people who have been accepted.

part of it is luck to. it depends who reviews your application as well
