Got the same response compsci, nobody could look at my application to see if maybe there was a misunderstanding or something along those lines. I want to appeal, but I need to know why I was rejected to form a proper argument, rather than focusing on something that may not have been the reason.

@Hopey11 I called back and got the same person that I did the first time. I asked again if I could speak with someone to go over my application and point me in the right direction and she again gave me the “we don’t go over the application with students” spiel saying that it was a new policy enacted this year. I then mentioned that I know for a fact that someone else had been able to get more information this very morning and with a little more pushing she finally pulled up my application. Hopey11, I would try calling back and being a little more aggressive. Worked for me.

I’m now working on a letter of appeal.

Does anyone know how the work-study works?! I currently work at Disneyland and I was wondering if it will be accounted in the program since I’m in the city of Anaheim and Irvine isn’t so far from it. Also, for the Blue and Gold, it says I’m eligible but do I have to do anything?!

@yazziiie786 - This is what I found about work study. It doesn’t sound like you can use your current job as part of the program.

I’m not sure about Blue and Gold because I don’t qualify. I think that you have to accept it though. Not sure. What does it tell you on your financial aid package? Mine asks me to accept or decline the loan.

are you guys going to also send in letter of recommendations or any other documents?

@formomilan it says here [Appeal Information](<a href=“Academic Resources | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI”>Academic Resources | Office of Undergraduate Admissions | UCI) that letters of recommendations are not required and I’m sure that means they won’t read them. In my case, I was advised to send course descriptions saying my course at UCSC is in fact an english composition course. Other than that, you need unofficial transcripts and your actual letter of appeal and that’s it.

@staar987 This is what it appears on my portal:

[imgur: the simple image sharer](Imgur: The magic of the Internet)

@yazziiie786 I wonder if that is what is included in the UC Irvine Grant. I think I read that at some point in this thread. Hopefully someone else can answer that. I wish I qualified for it!

@staar987 I hope so too!!! >.<

@Yazziiie786, if you don’t mind me asking, what was your EFC? Or any value close to it? You got amazing financial aid, I’m totally jealous! I am way way way under the income level to get the Blue and Gold aid, but my EFC was not 0 because I have a super humble savings account… I haven’t even been accepted by UCI (yet, I hope), but I was just curious. Congrats on your acceptance AND on that nice financial aid :)

Rejected e___e
3.7 GPA, all IGETC and pre-reqs fulfilled, Honors Vice President + Phi Theta Kappa Member, volunteered at a convention for 3 years now + lots of other volunteer experience, involved in small business management for 3 years… was going for Business Admin major.
Is my GPA too low?! I’m sitting here wondering if I didn’t fill out the application right… I didn’t send in transcripts because of something that said they only need them after you’re accepted… is that where I went wrong? ><;;

@compsci what did they say about your application? I’m still in class so couldn’t call after that first time today, going to have to wait till tommorow.

@sbvett I think the code was 0022. Thank you and thank you! Lol

Only reason why I think I got a nice aid is because I’m considered independent now (Finally!) With that, I just work weekends to focus on studying during the weekends so yeah…

If anyone knows any information about the Blue and Gold, please hit me up!!! I’m still trying to figure out if I need to do anything

@gsteg what was your first degree in? What were some of the main reasons for getting a second degree? Contemplating this option.

@Hopey11 I was told that the GPA for my pre-req’s wasn’t high enough so now I know what to address in my appeal. I don’t know why they insist on making it so difficult for students to determine their reason for denial.

@yazziiie786, that’s interesting. I have a higher EFC but I’m also independent. Good that you have time to study during the week
Are you gonna keep your job once you transfer?
@compSciTransfer, I agree!! I wish they would just explain why we’re rejected in the rejection notice itself. Like we don’t have the right to know…
Still pending at UCI. Am I the last one??

@sbvett Yeah, I want to stay where I’m at. Like I said in one of the post, I work for Disney so it won’t be as far. With that being said, I’m getting paid for easy labor and I have great benefits from them. If Disney won’t do the whole work-study thing, I’m planning on working on campus (while working at Disney) till I get my entire aid and just quit.

@ineedadegree. My girlfriend is the one who is getting a second degree. Her first bachelors was from UCLA in Physiology. She is now going for a 2nd degree in Mechanical Engineering. She had a tough time finding a job with her degree and did not want to go to medical school. I suppose she got bored of the healthcare field. Her original plan was to go into engineering after high school anyways, so it all works out in the end. As for myself, my one and only degree is in Mechanical Engineering.

Getting a 2nd degree is very tough. You’re basically the lowest priority of all applicants.

It’s weird because I was wait listed last year and wasn’t selected off the wait list, so I ended up going to CSULB instead. I got in this year, so it looks like I’ll be transferring to UCI from CSULB after all!

I wonder why I was chosen this year, but not last?
