UCI Transfer 2013 Decisions

Is anyone still pending? Not on wait list, straight up still pending? Am I the last one?

@clamfest! its like im waiting too haha and theres a guy from Tokyo here? hopefully he gets in!! exactly what i was wondering about in the international dorms haha i wonder how many are from japan
@tophatflyer I hope you get in man!! がんばって!

Does anyone know if the UCI grant is the same as the Blue and Gold? (Meaning that whatever I got from the UCI grant is the Blue and Gold)

Hi guys! I know this is the UCI thread but if you guys could take a few minutes and check out my link below, I’d really really appreciate it.

I’m working on a research project and want to use CC as a form of data collection. I’m basically writing an urban narrative and want to find out why people choose to come to UCLA and how it is a product of urbanization. All answers are valid and would be much appreciated. Thanks guys!

Hey everyone, I already posted this in the UC Transfer forum but I was hoping by posting it in here, I’ll get more input about my current situation… Thanks!

"So I just received my rejection email a few days ago and was finally able to reach UCI’s admissions office to ask… why did I get rejected even though I’ve satisfied all TAG reqs.
They didn’t tell me much but they said “I can’t discuss it over the phone, if you could come over to the UCI admissions office, we can talk about it.” The only thing I can see that might be a problem is that I TAG’ed for East Asian Culture but put my secondary major as Engineering (so they think I’m TAG-ing just to get an easy admissions then switch to Engineering?) But the fact is I want to major in EAC and was just putting Engineering because I wanted to explore it a little…

Anyone ever encounter a situation like this? Any hints as to what I might expect when I drive all the way up to Irvine and discuss the rejection? Also, if it’s this ambiguous, is there a chance I can somehow convince them to accept me when I actually visit? Thanks…"

@ Eltwong: I don’t think your rejection has anything to do with what you put for your alternate. I applied as an anthropology major and UCI did not have the alternate major that I put for all the other UC’s so I put Business. Not only did I not have any prereqs done for business, but my GPA was no where near as competitive as that of actual business applicants.

The way it works is if you don’t get accepted for your preferred major than they will review you for your alternate major. They won’t just assume that you are trying to get in with an easy major and switch. They would just admit you and not allow you to switch majors if anything.

Same thing for UCLA. I applied as Anthro but put my alternate as Communications(avg GPA for Comm was 3.9) and again I was no where near that GPA.

Your best bet would be to go talk to them in person, figure out what was wrong than appeal. Worse thing that could happen is that they say “no”.

@eltwong that’s pretty cool that you can find out although it sucks that it has to be face to face. Do you know if you have to make an appt?

@eltwong I think someone else tagged but didn’t get in and it was because the admins misunderstood one of the listed classes - could be that

Called them again and Got off the phone with them around 1. I don’t know who I was talking to but she did actually tell me something useful. For engineers, she said a common mistake was not filling out pre-reqs correctly, this jeapordizing the whole app. Though I don’t think this problem affected me. I will be going down to irvine to talk to them in person to get all the info I need to perfectly combat the weaknesses on my application! I shall tell you guys what happens

Keep us posted, Hopey!!!

I’m actually driving to Irvine tomorrow too. I have major transfer anxiety right now and I am afraid that dropping a non pre requisite class will affect my admission status…Wish me luck and good luck to you guys too @clamfest @Hopey11 and @Eltwong

@kayvuvu you were already accepted??? good luck by the way. Dropping the class shouldn’t matter if it doesn’t matter for your IGETC or 60 transferable units and what not. Hope it works out for you!!!

Thanks everyone, I’m actually driving out to Irvine tomorrow as well to talk to the transfer office or whatnot. Worst case is I get (in-my-face) denied for the unknown reason… Best case is they say “I understand” and accept me (man I hope this happens…)

The problem with being rejected (that I can’t fathom) is that I TAG’d for East Asian Culture, that’s not a very… common major (so I would think) and TAG-ing would mean I’m GUARANTEED the spot if I fulfill the requirements, right? I guess in order to understand why I was rejected despite fulfilling TAG completely… I need to face the music :x

Edit: I forgot to ask, is there anyone who’s been through this predicament before? (or know someone who has?) I’d like some input on what the possibilities are from a personal experience.

@ Eltwong: TAG is strange. I believe UCI lists which majors participate in TAG correct? Was East Asian Cultures one of those majors that was participating in the TAG program?

@rickeyseg, thanks man, I hope I get in too and then we can chill :D. I’m guessing after today we start to hear back about the waitlist as they count the students who have SIR’d?

@TopHatFlyer: I think you would hear back after June 1st since that is the actual deadline to SIR for transfer students. Hope you get in and hope I get in because my sister and I wanted to go to Japan while in school so I’d definitely like to meet somebody who knows more about the country before I would actually go!
@Eltwong: I’m in the same boat. I TAG’d for film and media studies and didn’t have an alternate major and my TAG was rejected. They told me I had to write an appeal, even when it looked like a mistake on their part, and wait until it was processed. Unless the East Asian Culture major does not participate, I don’t get how you could be rejected. I doubt it had a “competitive” gpa like engineering. Good luck, though and keep us posted!

@ TopHatFlyer: You’re from Tokyo? Cool! My brother actually just came back from his 6 month stay in Tokyo. He was studying at Waseda University =].

@tophatflyer
Id love to room if you get in haha im a little worried that if i do get into the international house that it won’t really have many if any japanese students which is the point of me doing it since Im minoring in Japanese. Plus it will definitely be different from staying with people who arent international students. But we will definitely hang out. Im hoping you and clamfest can get in then we can be the three best friends hahahaha

@iDizzle yes, EAC was a TAG major :</p>

i’m going to keep this as calm as i can, in light of recent events…

SO I CALLED AGAIN AND THEY TOLD ME THAT MY TAG WAS RECEIVED BUT NEVER ACCEPTED. ALTHOUGH I HAD A 3.77 GPA WITH ALL TAG REQUIREMENTS DONE FOR EAST ASIAN CULTURES, I WASN’T EVEN ABLE TO TAG FOR IT, RIGHT NOW I’M IN SHOCK BECAUSE THEIR SYSTEM IS PROBABLY THE MOST FLAWED PIECE OF **** IVE EVER BEEN A PART OF. WHAT KIND OF PLACE RECEIVES THE TAG APPLICATION OF AN OVERQUALIFIED STUDENT (FOR THAT MAJOR) AND THEN DOESN’T EVENT ACCEPT IT.

all i can do right now is appeal right now. going to their office (i asked) can change nothing and if i took the hour drive up there, they would just tell me “your TAG wasn’t accepted, try and appeal” herpderp. i’m on a whole different level of frustrated and angry right now. this was my LAST CHANCE because i was rejected from every other UC and i thought TAG would save my @$$. Thanks UCI, for screwing up my education and my future. Thanks. A. Lot.

Edit: By the way, I’m this angry because I had dropped out from UCSC (because it was REALLY not working for me) and SLAVED for two full years at cc trying to get the highest grades possible only to get denied by UCI because they didn’t accept my TAG.
