Did you have at least 30 community college units completed by September of 2012?

@ Eltwong:Wth? Yeah, TAG is a load of ****. So many technicalities. What other schools did you apply to? I don’t understand how you were rejected from everywhere with a 3.7? That is pretty ridiculous.

@Eltwong OMG YOU DID EXACTLY WHAT I DID. I dropped out of UCSC and spent 2 years at a CC as well! UCI is ALSO my last chance!!! It was the only school I applied to because I TAG’d to it as well!!! I already submitted my appeal so I’m going to wait and see
They really didn’t tell you why you were rejected? I mean, if you met TAG requirements 100%, then there should be no excuse from them except that it was a mistake on the system. With that GPA they should have accepted you as a regular student!! I feel really bad for you and hope your appeal gets through. People were saying that most appeals go through for UCI so maybe there are good chances for us?

so from what HopingToXfer said on my other thread, you need to be in good standing with your previous school (UCSC), and I left my last semester with a 1.9 meaning I was on academic probation… Is there a way I can do academic renewal or SOMETHING to ensure I get in? I’m just… oh my god.

@Eltwong I think only CC’s do academic renewal. There’s some info about it here [Ms. Sun’s UC Admissions Blog - UC Nitty Gritty Transfer-y](Error) Hope this helps :-

from what i’ve seen on previous threads, i THINK UC’s do do it, anyways, I’m going to see my CC counselor tonight, then try and see one at UCI tomorrow when I visit my friend there… I see why everyone’s always just so negative. Working as hard as I can for two straight years only to get rejected for one of the easiest majors to fulfill (there’s almost no requirements for my major btw, which is why I’m surprised i didn’t get in with a 3.77…) Very VERY demotivating to get these situations… I’ll update everyone on how the heck I’ll deal with this crisis in… approximately 2 days?
When I see counselors at both CC and UCI and see how they advise me to go forward. :x

So sitting in University Town Center now… Just talked to Admissions and one of the reasons I was rejected because I didn’t meet the pre-req of having a 3.0gpa in major related courses… guess what I had. 2.97. Well although I don’t know the other reasons, I’m pretty sure that was the major deciding factor that killed me! I’m gonna try and appeal on the basis that my GPA will be over 3.0 by the end of spring quarter, that is hoping that I will get straight A’s. This year has just been killing my GPA down. My GPA is now even lower than what it was after fall quarter, and dang it when they look at my transcript, I hope they don’t turn it away because I’ve dropped to 2.9 from 3.1 for cumulative and from 2.97 to 2.81 for major related. How do you guys think I should appeal?

anyone knows the chance of getting off the waitlist?

@eltwong you think you can help ask your if its possible to join a cc over the summer and apply for tag in the fall?

@hopey11 from what i’ve experienced, cc’s are really versatile, i’m almost positive you can join a cc, just take a class or two, and get other with it. tons of people mix and match classes across different city colleges cause some don’t have what they need.

@clamfest Oh yeah you are right, my bad. Oh, they are asking for transcripts by June 1st for wait listed people and I will have a better GPA this semester (even with calc 2 and physics 2). I’m hoping my transcript affects my wait list status. Also, yeah Japan is awesome; nothing like the US. @rickyseg, I hope I get in and we can talk about Japan and whatnot haha. @iDrizzle yeah Waseda is really nice, I’ve visited the school. Hope your brother had an awesome time in Japan, it’s a real culture shock for most people who haven’t been there.

@Hopey it would depend on the TAG for the school you’re trying to apply to. I remember looking at last year’s matrix and for some schools it would say that summer did not count as a regular semester.
@TopHatFlyer But they are unofficial transcripts, right? I had to send some in for my appeal, but they were unofficial. And haha for sure! I wanna try takoyaki really badly! xD

@ Hopey: Yeah I think a sub 3.0 is going to be tough to appeal. it’s always safe to be at least at the TAG GPA. What major did you apply for?

@ TopHatFlyer: Yeah my brother had a lot of fun there. He is a Business econ/Japanese major so no real culture shock for him. We also went to Japan in 08, was really fun =]

@clamfest, no it just says college transcript and my grades will be finalized by then so I’m gonna send my official transcript no matter what anyways.
@iDizzle, sounds awesome dude, glad he had an awesome time. Too bad being a business expat in Japan is tough :P

I got on the waitlist for irvine. What are the conditions of admission? Just wondering just in case I get admitted.

Is anyone going to discover uci?

@fkhan0 lol wish I could, but I need my appeals to go through first! xD

@fkhan0 I’m thinking about it. But leaning towards no because the computer science department is holding their own transfer day the day after the other one.

@clamfest, I’ve been following your story religiously lol and honestly, I cannot believe that the admissions office was so careless with your application. You tagged, did the courses, and worked as hard as anyone. I hope whoever catches your appeal isn’t as inept as the one who handled your application. Make sure u stay on top of that and you’ll undoubtedly get your rejection overturned. I’m rooting for you (:

@staar, are all depts having their own days or do you just know of comp sci?

@tophatflyer yea I lived with a foreign exchange student from tokyo during high school
