UCI Transfer 2013 Decisions

Ohhh man…I can just imagine everyone looking at you, whispering among themselves asking “Who are THEY related to?!” haha!

@Staar987
My major is political science. I joined the topic very late.

@iDizzle I applied for mechanical engineering and alternate aerospace engineering. I know it’s gonna be tough but I’m still gonna go for it anyways, Do you guys think that should be my main appeal premise? Anything else I should add in?

Best part was when we were late and sat at a random table… the look on their faces, my god! Hahaha Honestly, it was a great experience cause you were having fun with random people and they were having fun with you! You can make a fool out of yourself and you wouldn’t have to worry jack ***** what they think of you! Lol

hmm, what 10:00am seminar did you all pick? I picked the transfer summer session one. and i haven’t gotten anything about a luncheon :(

A family member went to this school and loved it.

@fkhan0 You have to pick a session to attend? Hmmm. I’ll have to go over them again to see what there is.

What did everyone else pick?

@staar987, in my RSVP, it asked me to select a 10:00am session; 2 of them were info for international students/non-residents. One of them was called something like I’m admitted, what now? and the other one was Transfer Summer Programs. I might not have the exact words, but that was the general gist.

Is anyone else trying to get financial aid for the summer session?

Anyone know if you can take a class in the fall semester at cc while concurrently being enrolled and taking classes at UCI? I’m missing half a sequence and I would rather finish it up at the same school and take one class versus taking two classes at UCI.

I picked the Admitted. Now what? session

@TopHatFlyer so ive been trying to figure out how to make miso soup forever is there a secret to it i suck at cooking though so maybe its me. I’m addicted to that stuff… that and legit green tea not the sweet stuff but the really strong bitter kind.
@Clamfest
hey you went to ucsc right? what was good about it and what didnt you like? i have a friend and she got into ucsc but doesnt know if she wants to go there or a community college.

Would anyone want to go over my appeal after I’m done with it please?

@Hopey11 Sure thing, PM your appeal (or post it if you’re open about it)

I’m also coming from UCR, although as a second bacclaureate (getting a second bachelor’s degree) and I totally feel your pain. After four years here, I can tell you that if you aren’t happy here, don’t punish yourself even more by staying. Get that appeal in!

@ricky well there wasn’t much I didn’t like! I just left for my major because I thought the opportunities would be better in socal. It’s also pretty “artsy” and “indie” there and that wasn’t the direction I wanted to go with my major. The campus is really great and you get some amazing views of the Monterrey Bay. I liked the dining hall and I liked most of my classes. The profs I had were pretty cool.
What I didn’t like had a lot to do with the people I was living with when I first moved, but then I left and went to a different place that was better so it was all good. The problem with UCSC is also sort of the location because the buses take you downtown, but there aren’t stores like target for stuff you need. They have a CVS and a Trader Joes, but pretty much all there is down there is restaurants and little boutique stores. That can get annoying when you need to do some serious supply shopping. There are buses that can take you to another side of town where there’s a mall and a Target; it just takes awhile. It’s just that you have to do some extra traveling to get to certain places. The boardwalk is really close, but UCSC students always joke about how once you get into UCSC, you never have time to go to the boardwalk lol.
If you’re into nature and natural stuff, UCSC is perfect. I was walking home from a bio final I had at night and I threw away a piece of gum wrapper in the trash and this raccoon jumped out of the trash as soon as I did that haha. See LOTS of deer and raccoons. People like to feed the raccoons, even though they tell us not to haha. There’s also an aquarium close by that UCSC students can get in free to.

Sorry, guys. This was really long :I

@ clamfest: Monterey Bay is probably my favorite place in California! =]

Just called in and spoke to an admissions rep to find out the reasons for my rejection and wanted to give you guys a little update. The guy first told me there can be a myriad of reasons why and whatnot without giving me specific details but I talked him out of it and he complied. awww yeah. Haha but here it is; I had grades from 2 schools: a stupid vocational school and a CCC; (obviously) many courses from the vocational school did not transfer, but I was led to believe they did by a counselor from my CC so I didn’t bother retaking them at the CC, but anyway, that counselor also told me I had a 3.4 but the admissions rep told me after calculating the transferable and non-transferable courses, I only had a 3.2. Along with missing more pre-req’s because they were non-transferable from the vocational school. According to the admissions rep, the average gpa admitted is usually around the ~3.4 gpa area. With that being said, congrats to everyone who got in, good luck to those who are on the waitlist and those who are going to appeal, and better luck next time to those (including myself) who got rejected. Life goes on everyone! Finish strong and let’s welcome summer with open arms and soothe the butthurt! :P

@Farcen: you’re gonna try again next year?

hmmm…it seems like not too many people in the waitlist this year?

@Clamfest Well, I’m going to opt into UCSD’s waitlist and hope to get accepted. D: If not, there’s not much I can really do. :frowning: I don’t have much “new and compelling” information to present to appeal and I thought I had a 3.4 but actually had a 3.2. :(

I cant decide between the general theme transfer theme or international theme at arroyo vista i like international but i feel like the environment will be different.
also, uci sent me a latino orientation/acceptance letter hahaha.
