Hello guys,
I am really confused with the whole uc to uc transfer process. I am currently an incoming freshman to ucr for fall 2014. I really hope to transfer to uci for my sophomore year. I understand that it is very hard to get in there because I'm already at a uc. It's for financial reasons. So if I get decent grades for my freshman year, when do I start applying for sophomore year for uci? Do I apply in December or November because I don't want to turn in my application late. And if I did not get accepted, I will try again for my junior year. Do I apply again during thiose months? I know I am at a disadvantage against the cc people, but I would still like to try. Thanks for clearing it up. I just don't get the process even tho I had read the uc site for transfer.

post this in the UC transfer forum

You can’t transfer as a sophomore- only a junior. You would be eligible to apply in November 2015 for Fall 2016. If you have AP credit you could potentially transfer after your first year - if you have enough.

You can only transfer after completing 60 semester units or 90 quarter units. That’s a firm nonnegotiable number.

What if I had 32 units from ap credit and I’m currently taking 16 units for current fall quarter? Including all 3 quarters I would have more than 90 units

Why not just go to CC now?

You may as well go to community college first. Its cheaper that way and you will get the same education especially lower division. Plus its lot easier to get accept to uci via community college.

Not to be critical but your reason is because of financial reasons doesn’t cut for me. It would make more sense to go community college. Its not bad.

lol seriously, the UCs generally cost roughly the same so it makes no sense to go to UCR instead of UCI for “financial” reasons rather than going to a CC. Sounds like a save-face excuse because OP didn’t make it into UCI.

According to those UCR costs even more than UCI if you’re living on campus.

There may be unique financial factors in play that make one UC more expensive than another for this particular student. I don’t know why you think it’s warranted to assume that the OP is lying. There’s really no need to denigrate the OP, so either try to answer her question or don’t post.

As others have said, going to community college may be a good idea. It’ll save you a lot of money. Good luck.

You were no help at all. I live closer to irvine so I can drive there. I’m actually dorming at ucr. So obviously that cost more money. I hope you aren’t too stupid to understand that. Maybe you don’t have any financial issues with your family so you won’t be able to understand it at all. Maybe that’s the reason why you’re so damn snarky and ■■■■■■■ judgmental you ■■■■■■■ idiot. Thanks@cayton.

In addition to meeting the minimum # of units, you also need to complete the prereqs for your major, and most, if not all GE requirements. There’s another thread on here for UC to UC transfers that you may find useful.

I did have financial issues… which is why I went to a CC first. I’ll apologize for being a ■■■■■■■■■ and so snarky in my initial post.

But if you are trying to transfer for financial reasons, you will save a lot of money going to a CC and transferring rather than going to UCR and hoping to transfer. CC students can also get guaranteed admission to UCI through TAG.

^ Seconded

Are you in state or out of state? This will make it cheaper.

Also what are your college stats so far like GPA and EC’s? Not everyone will be accepted that is a transfer from a UC.
