Hi,
I need to have some advice that I was about to transfer in Fall2020 and the UC that I really want to get in is UCI. But, every year UCI is only accepting 5% in Business Ad major. And my GPA is kindly comparative which is around 3.6-3.7. I already got 2 C, and 2 W. I’m scared that my transcript is kinda ugly and they will not accept me. Anyone can give me some advice, please?
I got in this major at UCI this year. I saw a few people reported here that they were rejected with GPA 4.0. So I do not know which advice can work for your GPA.
But UCI does read essays. I think you should ask help from counselors, professors, etc. to prepare a good background of extracurricular and eventually come up with excellent insight essays.
Good luck.
thank you!!! I’m trembling rn!!!
There is no magic formula to get into the UCs, but I’ll offer my advice since I’m a transfer for Fall 2019 and I got into all the UCs I applied for. I’m also a business admin major except for UCLA, it’s business economics.
I highly recommend doing the honors program and getting certified by Spring. You get priority consideration from selected UCs (UCR, UCI, UCLA) and you’re also allowed to choose a second major on your application. I got honors certified and UCI accepted me very early (first week of April) while others didn’t get their decisions until later.
Completing your pre-requisites in the Fall before you transfer is a huge plus. You definitely want to have those done ASAP, and complete the remaining classes for IGETC or your associate’s in your last semester (this is what I’m doing).
If you do well in the honors classes/pre-reqs, your gpa should rise a bit. The 2 “Ws” are not going to hurt you at all if you briefly explain them on the application. I had a 3.8 gpa and 2 Ws on my transcript, so do not stress too much about it.
Lastly, extracurriculars and essays. Start your essays early and write them well. They don’t have to be perfect, but do not be like me and start them on the last week of November. Again, I am very lucky to have gotten accepted to the schools I applied to, and although I don’t think my essays were terrible, there is A LOT of room for improvement. Do not stress too much about extracurriculars. Yes, many business applicants have all these crazy internships and extracurricular activities, but let me give you some hope. I was active in only 2 programs/clubs and the rest were from high school.
Work hard in the next semester and I wish you the best of luck.
