I'm 99.99% sure I want to go to ucsd. BUT!! After carefully analyzing the potential for growth...I'm straying towards uci because they've been climbing the rankings like crazy (5 spots this year according to ussnews). Ucsd has been pretty stagnant in comparison. Does anyone forsee uci taking over ucsd as being the #3 uc?

i see this because ucsd seems like they're just top notched for their bio programs. whereas uci is climbing in the ranks in all categories

I got into both this year and choose UCI cuz La Jolla is freakin boring. There's also the thing about how UCI keeps increasing in ranking... it's just a matter of time before it hits the top 30 or 20, in my opinion.

Rankings are overrated. Take U.S. News with a large rock of salt. Go to the college you like the most, especially for undergrad.

uh maybe top30 but not top20...

I foresee UCI overtaking UCSD in the rankings, but probably not for another 15-20 years. UCI has set up a strategic plan to become a flagship campus like UCLA and UCB. Whether they achieve that goal or not, the plan mirrors some of the characteristics of what USNEWs uses for its rankings so I envision UCI to continue to climb.

UCI still needs to improve its commuter image, but I think it is more of a well-rounded school as opposed to UCSD.

However, you should pick the school that fits you best.

thanks everyone. I think i'm going with ucsd because most people see uci passing ucsd in 10+ years..and by then i'll be off to med school..so then i guess iw on't mater.

my parents convinced me to go to uci over ucsd also because of their "rapid increase in rank" (if that makes sense)

to me, what matters is the present and not so much of the future. all the schools have the potential to grow so just go to ucsd with its best bio program right now.

"rapid increase in rank" totally makes sense. acutally, davis has d1 football now so it might get more funding and free publicity...and that might translate into "Rapid increase in rank" as well

I don't think Davis will get that much publicity from its football...it's D1AA..not like you'll be seeing highlights on sportcenter or something.

Yes UCD is doing absolutely nothing, NOT read this:

The football team has improved by leaps in the last two years and this season defeated Stanford.
