I’m not sure which school to attend. The quality of education as well as the school environment/location is very essential to me.
UCI: This school may be more likely taken off the list. I know it’s a really good school, but I visited the campus and realized it may not be the school for me. I admire the school’s prestige and educational rigor, but location-wise I felt like I would be stuck at the school. There is nothing surrounding the school that will allow me to get away when college is getting stressful. I also feel like UCI lacks in the social aspect as well, which I would like in a school.
SFSU: Despite all the bad reviews about SFSU, I cannot get myself to eliminate this school off my list. SFSU is the only school that actually has the major I’d like to pursue, which is design. I love San Fran, but I have been reading a lot of complaints about classes being hard to get, no school spirit, profs being a hit or miss, commuter school etc.
SDSU: SDSU has become a recent addition to my list. When trying to decide what school to go to, I did not even think about SDSU. However, I did a little research and found that the campus life is very vibrant and surrounding the campus there is much to do. SDSU, I later came to find out, was ranked close to UCI! However, SDSU does not have a design major. My only closest option would be Civil Engineering or Urban Planning/Design.
From the information about the schools you gave out…
UCI: It seems to meet your quality of education requirements but lacks in school environment/location. But I think in the end, you can just create your own social life with your peers so it doesn’t matter much.
SFSU: I think you might want to take SFSU off your list because yes, it has the major you want to pursue, BUT if the classes are hard to get and the professors aren’t solid, then you won’t get the good quality education you want. In the end, you might take longer to graduate because you aren’t able to take those classes to fulfill your major requirements.
SDSU: SDSU might be the place for you~ I don’t know anything about the school but it seems like it would be a good fit for you. It has the environment you want and the education.
Good luck!
You’ll have a swagtastic time at any of these schools, they’re all in major metros in California. Imagine being stuck in Idaho or Nebraska I just graduated and my school was close to tons of radtastic stuff, but the stuff in walking distance got old fast, and you end up either just hanging out on campus or getting in a friend’s car and driving wherever (and then you can go wherever you want, doesn’t have to be right there).
It looks like there’s different cafes and bakeries all over and around UCI and even a boba tea place in University Town Center, tons of places to eat right there (in UTC, also there’s my favorite sandwich place of all time, Specialty’s, on campus. So jealous)
Also a bit southwest of campus is Fashion Island which has tons of fanshy shmiyit.
San Francisco is a weird place to be right now. It’s super expensive because of all the employees of rich tech companies that have migrated there over the last 20 years. So the social scene is almost completely dominated by rich 23 year old programmers. Seriously, all the parties will be sponsored by tech companies. (<— okay, so maybe i made that up BUT I SWEAR THAT’S WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE)
I hear San Diego is nice.
In the end, you should weigh everything though: costs, potential return on investment, quality of education, etc and make your own decision. The school matters a bit, but it matters even more what effort you put in and what you do with your time at school. And don’t just throw in the towel and decide to skip college entirely! Any of these schools will give you a leg up and get you started.
