UCI vs Cal Poly SLO

Hey guys I would greatly appreciate it if someone could give me some advice.

I’m a senior in high school and at this point I’ve heard back from all the colleges I’ve applied to and need to make a decision.
I was accepted to UC Irvine for business administration, and Cal Poly for agricultural business, and am having trouble deciding between the two. I’ve also been accepted to UC Davis for managerial economics in their Ag school.

Honestly, I love Irvine’s campus and community more, but I am thinking that cal poly is the better choice because it’s a more specialized major than just business and it’s also cheaper to attend. My family also owns a house close to San Luis so I would save money living off campus, but I was hoping to get away from my parents a little bit and enjoy being on my own.

Uc Irvine didn’t give me any need based financial aid, and while I have applied for various scholarships, most pertain to an agriculture related field. I really want to go to UC Irvine, but right now Cal Poly seems like the smarter choice. And I haven’t even taken into account UC Davis yet. If anyone would like to give their opinion it would really help me out, thanks!

I think that since you love Irvine’s campus more, you have your answer right there. In UCI’s business admin program, you can emphasize in accounting, marketing, finance, and other fields of business. Many students also double major outside of the school as well. I wouldn’t get hung up on the nuances between the business majors because both degrees look the same to employers. One thing to note about SLO is that it is very difficult and near impossible to switch your major if you end up not enjoying it. Another thing about Irvine is that you have every possible amenity available since you’ll be living in OC; I’m a bit biased but I truly believe we have world-class food, beaches, and shopping here. We have south coast plaza, newport beach, laguna beach, Disneyland, LA is an hour away, and you can easily take trips to SD, Vegas, and big bear for a weekend with friends. This factor along with being on your own I think makes for a great college experience. I’m not familiar with SLO’s area but I know that it’s not located near a major city like LA that you could easily drive to.
