which is better for doing pre-med? I know UCB is grade deflated, but will med-schools factor tht in ? if i go to UCB, and if i want to take courses at UCI in the summer, how does that work since UCI is a quater system and UCB is a semester system?

Thx

what you have on your transcript is UC grades. it doesn’t matter which school you go to. I believe it’s a 1.5:1 for UCI to UCB.
someone I know transferred from UCSD with a 3.9ish, went to Cal, got about 3.0. in the end, their GPA was still very high due to the UC GPA instead of Cal GPA.
med school do not factor in UCB GPA.

how do they do GPAs, if they are indeed “scaled differently?”

if you have 6 units at UCI -> 4 units at UCB, then if you get A
that’s 4*4 = 16 GPA points, then add in to whatever you have and voila, you have your UC GPA.

So med schools look at both the UCI gpa and UCB GPA total?

your UC GPA looks good, but when you send in your transcript, they will know where you take your classes. Not sure how it looks if you get so many Bs in Berkeley and so many As in UCI. Of course, getting into HKN or Tau Beta Pi, you only need your UC GPA and not Cal GPA.
