UCI vs UCD for biological sciences

I’m trying to decide between UCI and UCD for biological sciences. Last week I went to Davis’ Welcome Day and came away pretty impressed w/ their program and research opportunities. Then, today I went to the UCI Welcome Day in Oakland and their overall presentation was very impressive. They seemed to have a top notched biological sciences program with a big emphasis in research and internship programs, more so than UCD. They mentioned how their students were better prepared for med school and the MCAT’s. It’s hard to tell if they are as good as they say or if it was just a great sell job. So, once again, what are the pros/cons of UCI and UCD in the biological sciences?? Any current or past UCI and UCD bio majors out there? Thanks.

UCD Bio program >>>>> UCI Bio program.

UCD is one of the best schools in the nation for BioSci.

I graduated from UCI's bio program, and I think it's very good. I have never attended UCD, so I will not comment on their program, but I will disagree with VTBoy. Even IF UCD's program is better than UCI's, the difference isn't what VTBoy is saying with all of his ">>>>" marks. I find it hilarious that people are saying "x school isn't good at this" or "y school is better than z school" when some of you are probably in high school or are young college kids who have only experienced the campus that they go to.

Beware of who you listen to on this board. You might be making the biggest decision of your life thus far based on the opinions of someone uninformed.

It sounds like you went to both schools and saw their presentations. They are both very good at bio and if you want to go to med school you can get into a great one with an undergrad education at either Davis or Irvine. I think it will come down to fit and which campus you liked better. If you think you'll like it better at Davis, then go there. If you think you'll like it better at Irvine, then go there. NorCal vs. SoCal. It's a matter of personal preference at this point.

If you want to send me a private message, please do. I'll tell you more about the UCI bio program and answer whatever questions you have.

Alicant UCD Bio program is compareable to UCLA and UCSD, check rankings for Biology at USNEWS UCD >>>> UCI

yeah...rankings spankings...

ucd does have good rankings. ucd is harder to get into...i have two friends who applied bio to ucd and uci, both got into uci and rejected to ucd.

but if you think about it , these rankings are out of at least a couple hundred schools. the difference between a 40th ranking and a 60th ranking means almost didly ****.

go to the school with the campus you enjoy most, it's all up to you whether or not you will do great in school or not, so just pick the place you think will let you do that.

For some reason there are some people on this board who's mission is to put down UCI. If you are going for undergrad, both are great at bio, just go to the one that you think has the better campus etc. Seriously. When people have a 3.7 from Davis and a 3.7 from Irvine, do you really think that med school adcoms are gunna be like "Wow, he went to DAVIS and their graduate bio program is ranked higher, forget the guy from Irvine, and they don't even have a football team." As they are both great programs, they'll be more impressed with research etc. Their selectivity is pretty identical. Overall, UCI even has a little bit lower acceptance rate for all undergrads, but its negligible and not really worth factoring in when deciding where to go to college.
