So, I got accepted into UCD for Comp Sci at the college of LS and at UCI at the Bren school of information and computer sciences, and I need help deciding between the two. My first priority is job and internship opportunities available at each school, along with the strength of the Comp Sci programs. I'm also interested in what each university is generally like including setting, people, social life, etc. Please post your opinions, thanks.

Hey,

I might be able to help you out. I’m currently a Software Engineering major at UCI. I see what your question is. Well, UCI is the only campus that has a whole school, Donald Bren ICS, dedicated towards computer science and its sister branches. Since this is my second year, I can tell you that the program here at UCI is relatively strong. You will be working alongside with many freshman that share similar interests as you and most likely, your first intro Computer Science class, ICS 31, will really give you a reality check. However, coming from my experience, make sure you build relationships with fellow classmates because once you get to ICS 32 and 33, you will need help that cannot be received from the Professor or the TA’s. UCI has a plethora of job/internship opportunities. Lucky for you, Broadcom and other BIG name companies are just around the corner from campus. Davis on the other hand, I’m not too sure. Honestly, I think Davis is isolated from everyone else and there is hardly a reason to attend that campus. Don’t get me wrong because I got accepted into Davis with a Computer Science major too, but if you want to wake up to the smell of cow turd for the rest of your undergrad career, be my guest. As for setting, UCI is a beautiful campus. It’s located in freaking Irvine. The people here at UCI are pretty nice, but just carry some common sense and avoid putting your full trust into people you think are trying to help. And lastly, social life quality is dependent on your willingness to participate in social events/activities. It doesn’t matter if you go to UCI or Cal State Dominguez Hills…it’s all about your effort in trying to make a good time out of your Friday night. Hope this kind of helped.

Yea so pretty much it would be a dumb decision to SIR into Davis…

@seok9ju10: Your opinion about UCD is your opinion. The remark about the “cow turd” is really showing your ignorance about the campus. @Sarcasium: UCD is a great campus with stellar academics and much to offer students, but it is a completely different environment than UCI. It is located near Silicon Valley and has a lot of great opportunities for a CS major. My advice is compare the curriculum of each UC and visit, if you have not already, to form your own opinion. You can ask a lot of people about which is best but ultimately you will be the one attending the next 4 years. You need to find the best fit.
