I got accepted to UCI in biological sciences and to UCD in animal sciences. Originally, I wanted to be a vet which is why I chose animal science at Davis. But recently I’ve hit a stump and I’ve been rethinking about what I want to do in the future. I really want to research animals in the future but I also want to have a steady base major like biology so I can have more options if I want to pursue different medical careers. I still have a passion for animals but I’m iffy on becoming a vet due to the amount of school it takes and the costs. UCD offered me loans and grants but UCI only offered me loans. I lived in Irvine for 15 years but I kinda want to get out. I am also dorming wherever I go. What should I do?
Where you should go is a personal decision. You can change majors at UCD and there is an Animal Biology major in the same college that may be of interest.

If money is a concern and you want to get out of your comfort zone, then consider UCD. There Biological science program is well respected.
How to change majors at UCD:
If you want to change your major:
You must use the online Change of Major Petition.
You will need to schedule an appointment with the major adviser of your intended major.
If you are wishing to change your major within the College of Biological Sciences, then you must make an appointment with your new major adviser by clicking the “Schedule an Appointment” link above. You may do so by clicking the “Schedule an Appointment” link above.
Some departments require the completion of prerequisite courses with a minimum GPA before you can change into the major.
You must complete 1 quarter at UC Davis before becoming eligible to change your major.
The approval process will occur online.
Both schools will give you a great education, so you need to find the school that “fits” you socially and financially also.
UCD parent here so I may be bias.
@Gumbymom Thank you! I was wondering if changing majors is difficult in Davis because I hear different things from different people.
Changing into Engineering usually requires several pre-req courses and a minimum GPA but for most of the other colleges, it is fairly easy. You cannot change majors until after 1st quarter Freshman year, so you will need to attend your Freshman Orientation for the College of Agriculture and Environmental Science. You can then talk to an advisor about switching majors or exploring an alternative in the same college as the Animal Biology Major. The Biological Sciences at UCD are impacted so you might want to email the department on the success rate for switching. There are many options in the College of Biological Sciences so some majors may be an easier switch than others.
