yea...im not like almost everyone here gettin into ivy leagues and having to choose between the top schools in the nation. i just want to see some other peoples opinions as to which school would be the best choice. let me give you my scenario:

im majoring in biochemistry
i live in riverside, ca
(ucr is just 15 minutes from home)(UCI is 45 minutes away)
if i go to UCI or UCR i will have to commute anyways
i want to get my B.S. in three years
i am going into dentistry

any response will be greatly appreciated, and good luck to all the other students who are choosing between harvard and yale.

well, since you're going to commute anyways...I think it's probably more financially reasonable to attend UCR (with gas prices these days) and plus if you want to get your GEs out of the way during the summer, there's RCC...

Irvine I guess... Even if gas prices are high, at least you're not spending 12,000+ dollars on housing.
Personally, I like the Irvine Med program better

You should listen to that other guy. When choosing a school, it's important to look at gas prices, to make sure that you're not spending more money driving then you have to. Generally speaking, education quality and opportunities afforded by your university come secondary to issues related to gasoline and transportation.

College is also not a time for expanding your horizons, meeting new people, living away from home, etc. You should go to UCR and live with your parents. That way, you'll save money, have someone to do your laundry for you, and when it comes time to apply to dental school, UCR is really the Harvard of the West, so I'm sure you'll do just fine.

Can you pull up dental admissions stats for each school?

I'd say go where you'd be happier. The drive will stack up over the years, but if you would not like UCR, and would like UCI more, you should go to UCI.

The drive from Riverside to Irvine and back will be excruciating, demoralizing over 4 years. The freeways have gotten evil. Maybe if u are in Riverside you'll have local friends to hang out with and go to school events and stuff with. For me the quality of the school is usually the first consideration but I just got a sad vision of u on the freeway. go to UCR for 2 yrs and if you wish to transfer, do it for the last 2 and make some money to pay for housing at the new campus. If you don't have $ to live on campus Freshman year at UCI, avoid the commute and promise yourself to make the best of it at UCR. good luck.

Well, DRab, I don't have any dental school admission statistics because no undergrad school is going to publish them...but then again, since I don't have any stats for Harvard either, I guess it's safe to assume that students from Harvard and UCR get into dental school equally well. On the other hand, you might wanna check out some of the stuff UCRiverbed wrote. He doesn't have stats either, but what he says makes a lot of sense.

Well...i will have to commute due to certain responsibilities and commitments i have in riverside. for financial concerns and convience, UCR is the more practical. but then again, is UCI worth driving 40 minutes everyday? also, would UCR on my transcript have a negative impact on my admission to dental school then UCI?

Why do you keep talking about your banned former username? Feel free to continue to pretend it isn't you, but c'mon, have more self-respect than that. And also, Mr. Logic Pro, I hope you realize that you conclusion has little relation to your premises.

Huh? All I'm doing is repeating YOUR logic, bro. Isn't that what you're trying to say? That since we don't have stats on where UCR peeps get into dental school (cuz they're not published), we really couldn't make an assumption like: Harvard students get into better dental schools than UCR students???

No, I don't subscribe to that, sorry, and didn't even imply it, primarily because the schools aren't comporable. However, UCR and UCI are. You have to put it in context for it to make sense.

I'll save Drab the trouble and say that rankings are useless. UCR is probably just as good as any other UC (including Berkeley) because it's a UC. A difference of #40 vs. #85 is definitely too close to tell UCI apart from UCR, right?

You're also likely to meet a lot of inbred hicks in Irvine, because Irvine is located in a desert wasteland like Riverside, right? ....or wait...what if there IS a difference between UCI and UCR? I don't know. Drab has me all confused.
