What are the pros & cons for both UCI's and UCSB's dance department?

Good question! I’d love some responses. My DD wouldn’t apply to UCI as she didn’t feel at home there; she passed the audition at UCSB, but we hear differing reports about strength of the program. Anyone… ?

My D’s take on the programs is that UCSB is very modern based with ballet. They do not offer classes in jazz or urban dance. It seems to direct there students towards joining small modern based dance companies or forming their own company. UCI is more triple program, with a balance between ballet, modern and jazz. Though they do not offer urban dance on a regular basis. Not sure if there students really come out trained in commercial dance or not. D is more ballet/jazz then modern. She liked the combinations at UCSB and the teachers though the program overall was not for her. UCI she felt the audition combinations where a little dance team/competition feel to them. She did like the teacher that taught them. She has not take classes at either school so these are just her impressions from the auditions. The chairs of both departments seemed very engaged and interested in their students.
