UCI vs UCSB

For business economics?

Is one program better at one school than at the other?... I plan to go to law school (if I can make it in) does anyone know if perhaps one school prepares you better for that? Does one school have better job placement (in case i don't get into law school)?

I know the enviroments are different... but for me it really doesnt matter I have a few friends and a cousin at UCSB and quite a bit of friends at UCI... I live in the central valley so their both just as far for me too...

I know that for a good program I should be looking at UCB/UCLA but they haven't released admisson decisions, plus I highly doubt I will get into either as my gpa is only 3.70... and I am currently at a CSU so that probably blows any and all chances (but I still believe in miracles lol)...

-thanks

I just found this site a few days ago, and I was going to post asking this exact same question (minus the law school plans)--which is why I'm bumping this thread. I'm still waiting for Cal (even though the chances are slim, especially since I didn't get into UCLA), but I think I'm leaning towards UCSB. I'm going to visit them both sometime next month. Anyone have any input?

a part of me wishes i applied to uci. in terms of people talking about UCs, i've only heard people talk about ucsb and not uci. in terms of rankings, i've heard ucb is first, then ucla, ucsd, and ucd/ucsb were tied - recently, i've heard uci tie with them.

it really comes into individual programs. i have seen uci rank within the top 10 or 20 in a few programs on some site that someone posted on cc. best of luck to all! forgive me if this didn't make any sense, i have been drunk posting tonight.

as for me, i'm set on ucsb for communication.

byebyesfstate: Don't worry, you made sense haha.

Yeah, I've heard that as far as ranking and stuff, too. Did you already apply for housing, and if so, where? If I go there, I thought I'd apply to the campus-owned apartments, but I kinda want to dorm. Do you know if Manzanita Hall & San Rafael will have like a floor or something specifically for transfers? My thing is, I don't want to have a roomie who's a first year. Nothing against them; just that we're at different stages in life, yanno?

i haven't applied for housing yet. i need to do that this week. i want to live in a dorm as well. i'm between manzanita and san rafael. i think san rafael is specifically geared toward "transfer-living" according to the housing site.

rachiez143- how cool, you revived my thread... are you a business econ major?

anyway, i got rejected from LA too and still waiting for UCB but i dont think ill get in... I pretty sure im going with UCSB (98% sure) so Ill be submiting my SIR there tomorow after i see my rejection from Cal...

as for living my cousin said San Rafael is for continuing sophomore+ and transfer students

he also said that the univ. owned aptments are raffled off to continuing students and that he was sure all of them they were already raffled off
as for manzanita vs san rafael he said he liked san rafael better than the rest of the residence halls (which is why he is going to live next year)...

asq: Yup, I'm a business econ major. I kinda want to double or minor in sociology, but I don't know if I'll be able to do that. If I don't get into Cal, then I'm 98% sure I'm going to UCSB, but I still need to visit both of them before I decide for sure.

Yeah, I looked a little more into housing, and I think personally I will apply to live in San Rafael for "transfer-living."

I was also wondering, people who are more than likely going to UCSB: are you going to Transitions? Just curious. I wish I would've discovered this forum earlier haha.

i'm going to transitions!

It depends, I'm poor but maybe I can convince my dad to pay for it... heh

but if I do end up going it will probably be session B as I will be pretty busy during the begining of summer, what session are you planning on going to byebyesfstate?

Im also going to transitions for session B as a bus. econ major. I'll be staying in Santa Ynez Apartments for summer and I want to stay in Manzanita for the fall.

If you plan to dorm, I don't think you can go wrong with either Manzanita or San Rafael since both are designed for transfers and non-first years. The only difference being Manzanita also houses 250 freshmen and San Rafael offers suite style rooms.

Byebyesfstate: What session are you attending ? and are you going to the spotlight for summer on May 16th?

i'm not too sure which session i'm attending just yet. i want to push the move to santa barbara as far back as possible so i can work more. i do plan on going to the spotlight for summer, not sure if i want to go to may 16th or may 30th. i heard it was may 9th or 16th, but when i looked online it said the 16th or 30th. nonetheless, i plan on going to the later one.

I would attend Session G since it's the only that works best with my schedule. I can't go to any Spotlight days though which I'm kind of sad about... Let us know what they're like for those who are going! =)

i'm a comm major as well, still waiting on ucsd, not sure i would go even if i got in since they don't offer on campus housing, and it looks like session A is the only session offering comm 1 for summer, i would prefer D since its only 3 weeks but they only have them for upper division courses, so i don't think you can take those upp division courses without finishing the lower ones first. Plus session A is kind of early in the summer. For fall my first choice was manzanita, however, after hearing more about san raf, maybe i am reconsidering, not all the rooms are suites at san raf right? For summer, they are only offering san mig on campus and i heard its more expensive then off campus. And also for fall i wouldn't want to be stuck with a first year either, i'll be junior standing, but it will be my 4th year of college and i'll almost be 22 when fall rolls around. i probably should attended the may 16th or 19th thing but transportation might be a problem, plus how much do those transitions things relay help if anyone has even been on one?

Hey awesome people in my same boat. I'm pretty sure I'll go to UCSB and I applied originally as a Bus Econ major, but I was missing some pre reqs so they emailed me and told me to pick another major and I picked comm and got admitted under that. Still debating on if I should change back to Bus Econ, but I kinda like the idea of majoring in Comm because I am terrible at math and not really an econ guy, which is half the major so yeah.

I got into ucsd under econ but the off campus housing just seems lame and one of my friends has a house already in I.V. that I could move in to. I was thinking about doing the transitions program too, not sure which session yet.

yeah i tried my hand in biz econ and its not really my things, terrible at math and accounting, and econ just gets so dam boring at times. I've seen the work in work i need to do in the class if i do the transition thing and not really sure i'm up for it in the summer, especially so early.

Well since I got rejected from UCLA, looks like I'll be going to UCSB. So of the housing options for the summer sessions can anyone give me some info regarding the pros/cons of each apartment or the one hall avaliable?

Hey! there can only be one dude around here. J/k

Ok I'm bumping these UCSB threads so that my fellow Fall Gauchos will join the UCSB facebook group lol.

I'm actually from irvine and I have friends going to UCI and I myself go to UCSB. The atmospheres can't even be compared, if you want quiet and don't really like doing much UCi is perfect b/c well... you won't do stuff there. I think the UCI medical school is a lot better tho, but other than that SB is just as good if not better in most categories, plus you'll have more fun and meet lot's of different people. The dorms are really small and I personally wouldn't live in them, the better bet is to find some roomates in isla vista, there are usually plenty of ads on craigslist and facebook so u can pick who you want to live with, although rent in IV keeps going up and it'll set you back some
