Hi, so I got into UCI for engineering and Cu boulder for engineering, but UCSD for Global Health, and most of their other majors are capped! I’m not positive as to what I want to do, but having the option to do engineering would be nice. I like to be active and social, but not necessarily partying. Any advice on which school to choose?
Hi, I am also deciding between UCSD and CU Boulder! I got into engineering for both and know that it is HARD to get into engineering at UCSD from a non engineering major because they are all capped and after talking to a professor at triton day he made it seem like it is also hard changing majors within engineering, which i might like to do. My friend decided not to go there because she thought changing majors would be too hard. After talking with a woman working in admissions at Boulder, she said it is fairly easy to change engineering majors within engineering, so if you dont know what you would like to do yet, having it easy to change majors would be nice.
I also love to be active and am not interested in partying. I fell in love with CU Boulder’s campus when i visited. Its really pretty and there are so many outdoor activities to do. Ive heard it is a big party school, but if you go into engineering im sure those students will be studious especially if you room in the engineering quad, but that fills up fast on first come first serve, so i hope i get into it if i decide to go there. UCSD has also been called UC socially dead, but that depends on how much you put yourself out there. If you join clubs im sure you will have a social, active and fun time.
CU Boulder is OOS for me, so its quite expensive. Both are great engineering schools, but UCSD seems more competitive. I like boulder though because i am interested in sustainability and its campus cares alot about that. Good luck in deciding! Maybe ill see you wherever you go!
If you want engineering, then probably not UCSD. Plus, it is the polar opposite of Boulder socially. Perhaps Irvine is the happy medium for a fun but not extreme party school, and you will get the major you desire. Congrats and good luck!
Thank you for the advice! I am a little bit worried that UCI won’t be what I am looking for socially out of a college experience, but I have a hard time deciding what is most important or how to balance that.
@2Rach2 ,DO you know if CU Boulder is seen negatively because of it’s reputation as a party school or if employers think more highly of Irvine? I am also OOS so Boulder is a bit more expensive and would require I am an RA and I was a little on edge about how undiverse it is. Any thoughts?
@coolKat77 I do not know much about Irvine because I did not apply there, but my mom asked people at her work if they have ever rejected anyone because they attended a party school and they said no. All schools have partys just some are more well known than others. Any engineering degree no matter where it is from I am sure is valuable. I was also worried about that and asked that in another one of my posts, but did not get any answers.
