I am waiting for my UCB admission, but if i do get in, which of the above colleges would you guys choose. I am planning to enter as a Bio major, and hopefully enter med school after. i am concerned that if i do enter UCSD or UCB, i will get a lower GPA as oppossed to if i enter UCI. Do med schools really look at where you did ur pre-med?

how's your admittance status right now? i am somewhat torn between ucb and uci right now, although i'm a psych major. i can't make up my mind as to where i truly want to go. have you decided yet?

shoefactory would you have chosen irvine over berkeley if you didn't get chp? if not would you care to enlighten me on what the advantages of being in chp is thats so great?

I went to UCI over UCB because I got a scholarship here, not just because of CHP.

Go search "CHP" or look through my recent posts. I've made a lot of posts about CHP in this forum.

But, as a bio major (or someone planning med school), it doesn't really matter where you go as long as you pull high grades. (3.8+ at uci, 3.7+ at berkeley)

r u kidding...how is UCI even a contender...besides a 3.6 from UCB is probably gonna look better than a 4.0 from UCI....and actually i think UCSD is ranked #1 for bio out of the UC system...so u should prolly check that out...i really dont know how UCI is being considered when u have those options

actually wasupieboy, statistics and admissions show that graduate schools dont care what school you go to and wont give you leeway with your gpa, if you go to a harder school.

so no a 3.6 from Berkeley isnt going to look better than a 4.0 from uci.

and uci is ranked only a bit lower than ucsd, so dont act like its a calstate.

How much of a differences would you say there is between the UCI Bio Undergrad and UCB Bio undergrad. I know for sure that getting a 4.0 in UCI is not easy.

But remember at UCI, it will be easier to obtain recs and research because there are less bio kids mongering over them. Also, since you will be at the top, theyll be easier to get.

Make the decision based on prestige and what school you like better. If you want to go to UCB because of prestige, thats fine. If you want to go to UCI because you like the school/area, thats fine too.

ShoeFactory, do you know if I can do the senior thesis for honors (school of humanities) at UCI but not do the other CHP requirements? I'm a transfer student (regents scholar) and don't think I'll have enough time at Irvine to do the year-long honors sequence...

You are exempt from the honors sequences (hum core for sure, don't know about soc sci core) if you enter honors after freshman year. And if you've already taken sciences, youre out of sci core.

If that question is toward to me: No, I'm not a CHP student, although I'm considering of applying for 2nd year now that I know I won't have to take those Humanities courses. Problem is, I'm a double major and really want to go into that 2-3 quarter research at senior year so CHP may be more of a "distraction" than a "compliment" to my research goals.

I have the grades (between 3.6 - 3.7, likely to go up to 3.7 - 3.8 at the end of the quarter) to apply, question is, will I lose another part of my soul? :D
