I just had to let go of the school I SIRed to because I was admitted there as Undeclared. I figured that declaring into an impacted major would be very difficult. Now UCI is my only hope, and if not, I’ll just have to attend a CC ):
@hopefulstudent20 Nooo! There’s still high chances for all of us. UCI has stated they send notification regardless of decision, so if we were rejected, we’d already know by now. Keep your head high
@mohsam UCI sends rejections in mid June. So no, you would not know until then. Do not assume there is a high chance, because you may be disappointed in the end as they do not accept many from the waitlist (UCI has taken less than 15% of the people from waiting list in 2019). Conversely, UCB took 28%, UCSC 65%, UCD about 65% and UCSD took about 50% from the waiting list in 2019. UCLA, and UCSB take just as few as UCI.
@needhelp8929 Well damn, way to kill the mood :/. What are your sources? In case you haven’t been following this forum, there hasn’t been a single wave since the May 1 deadline. So yes, there is a high chance that a lot of us here get in once the FIRST post-SIR wave actually goes out, unless they reached a perfect number of students by barely pulling from the waitlist, which isn’t likely. Previous waitlist stats bear no weight as to whether or not they’ll accept a lot/little to none of us.
@mohsam you are reaching my man there is not “a high chance” of any of us getting off. The wave of admits in late April was pretty big so I would be surprised if many of us got off at all. I would just stop dwelling over UCI and look forward to where you have actually been accepted. Good luck nonetheless but looking at this thread I think you have been lying to yourself/ giving false hope.
@simonh24 Hey! Do not fret, CC is a wonderful option. You can save tons of money, plus there are a lot of programs in place for you to successfully transfer to a UC!
What is the school you had to let go of?
@mohsam I’m sorry if I hurt your feelings, but I’m trying to be as objective as possible. The stats are from the UC website slideshow for 2019 admissions. UCI had these stats, quoted from the source:
Fall 2019 admissions data for UCI
(as of 8/26/2019)
Applications 95,567
Admits 25,370
Admit rate 26.5%
SIR deposits 6,420
Waitlist offers 17,019
–>Waitlist opt-ins 8,483
–>Waitlist admits 1,496
Appeals received 1,217
Appeal admits 44
–>Waitlist Admit Rate: 17%
@aj7712 A wave before the SIR deadline to a few majors does not mean suddenly the chances of us getting in are low. None have been admitted from schools such as the School of Social Sciences. Unless your major was one of those that had admits in April (and the very, very few that got in on two days that came after SIR deadline), then there’s still hope.
@needhelp8929 No need to apologize, my feelings weren’t hurt. I know where you got the stats from, I was referring to the June rejection date. A source would be nice, although I know that’s when they most likely will go out. Just trying to spread optimism is all, I don’t get why people seem like I’m spreading “false hope” when there have been 0 waitlist admits (from here and reddit at least) from certain schools within UCI. Unless they reached their limit, it’s highly unlikely that they aren’t going to let some of us off soon. If they had reached their limit, chances are they would’ve sent out a handful of rejections to kids they can’t keep on the waitlist, and only keep on a few in the case that space becomes available.
@mohsam This scenario may not mean anything. I would try not to “speculate” from this scenario, as this is unfounded by evidence. Last year (2019), at UCSD, many waitlist admits were Cognitive Science, because that major had less enrollments than expected. Many others were not admitted directly due to their major being “capped” and filled to capacity. So, this could mean Social Sciences has been filled to capacity before the waitlist came out.

@worriedSenior345 I let go of UCR
@needhelp8929 I highly doubt that EVERY SINGLE MAJOR in the School of Social Sciences reached capacity without admitting at least a few kids from the waitlist.
@mohsam What universities have you got into? I would seriously consider those.
@needhelp8929 The only other option I have is UCR, and the financial aid package was literally dumpster scraps. Planning on transferring in Fall 2021 via community college since my IGETC is already finished. Just gonna finish up some major requirements and TAG to UCI.
It looks like some people just got their decisions. still on the WL for bio
Just want to let everyone know I got off the waitlist for biomedical engineering! Ask me anything! Also I’m on discord if you want to pm me, my username is Zyphlox#2097. Just let me know you came from College Confidential! Yay! Good luck to everyone!
I just got in got email for an update in the portal and in the portal it said Congrats! Biomedical Engineering -Premed. I will be accepting it. I think today some decisions have come from The Henry Samueli School of Engineering. Good Luck to everyone!
@UCIhereIcome2024 Oh nice, you got off of waitlist too and got in for same major as I did, except premed! Wow nice! Congrats! Zot zot zot!
Congrats! I hope we meet over at UCI . What do we do for housing on my portal it says the deadline was May 1st .
