@mohsam I think it might show up to everyone that’s on the waitlist since that shows up on mine as well.
My applicant status for UCI was updated today. It stated “… we want to provide you the opportunity to be included on the freshman waitlist.”
However, I applied as a transfer student. Is there a difference between a freshmen waitlist and a transfer waitlist?
If I decide to place my name on the waitlist, do get accepted, and register, does that mean I am transferring as a Freshmen to attend the school for 4 years to receive my bachelors?
My selected primary major was Computer Science and my alternative major was Undeclared. Does anyone know if it’s possible for me to get off the waitlist as an Undeclared major if there is no space for Computer Science? Or do they only consider primary majors in the waitlist process?
@simonh24 they consider both majors
I saw on Reddit that UCI sent out an email that housing is no longer guaranteed which including first-year dorms. I think that means they’re assuming first semester will be online but of course nothing is for sure. Do you think that means a likely increase in the amount of students they’ll let off the waitlist assuming less people, esp those OOS/International are likely to pay when housing isn’t even guaranteed OR a decrease in waitlist chances since if they limit housing, they would want a smaller freshmen class? I hope they start rolling out soon it seems like UCD and UCSB are already contacting a small pool of OOS and International students on the waitlist
I have some questions.
Did UCI accept LOCIs last year? Will sending a LOCI even when they tell you not to hurt your acceptance rate? Due to COVID-19, do you guys think UCI will accept more or fewer applicants from the waitlist and why? (I personally think they’ll accept more because of quartine, not many applicants will want to go out of states and etc but I may be completely wrong this is just my guess.) Do more OOS applicants get accepted than IS applicants from the waitlist?
@leej8532 I don’t think you can send a LOCI - someone on Reddit sent one in and said that they got a response with a copy paste of the FAQs that Irvine posts for waitlist students on the portal. Of course, we can’t know if UCI will accept more but I agree with oyu that I think it’s likely they will since as far as I know, Irvine doesn’t attract as many OOS kids as Cal or UCLA would, so less OOS would be willing to come out of state for Irvine esp during this pandemic and recession. I think that it’s likely that Irvine will make more admission offers to OOS applicants on the waitlist since that is what they’re looking to fill for the out of state tuition but I’m not sure all those applicants would accept the offer and I assume that when those people decline, the offers start being made to in-state. In other words, I think for now, we’ll mostly see out of state admits but eventually start seeing waves of In-state to fill the gap in enrollment. We won’t actually know until Irvine starts rolling out but until then this is what makes most sense to me.
@leej8532: None of the UC’s consider an applicants level of interest in their admission decision so No to sending an LOCI.
If I SIR to UCSD, does that mean I can’t waitlist for UCI?
@Gumbymom Do you know if UCI accepted LOCIs last year? Have they ever accepted LOCIs in any year? Thank you.
@7Maxwell you can
@leej8532: UCI does not accept LOCI’s but that does not mean that applicants have not sent them in before but they were not used in their waitlist decisions. This year is an exception so knows if they will consider them???
@7Maxwell: You need to SIR to a school by May 1 and you can remain on any number of waitlists at other schools until you get your final decisions.
where did you get the information about waitlist stats for the past 3 years?
UCLA started releasing some decisions today… hopefully UCI is soon
Are the UCSB/UCLA/UCSD waitlist decisions that have been coming out fine past couple of days earlier than expected? In other words, would it be possible for irvine to begin releasing decisions before 5/1?
@zoeh1322 UCSD started releasing? Also, I’m sure it’s possible for UCI to start in the next 2 days before May 1st, especially bc portal says they’ll be released between April-July… but seeing as colleges value money over qualifications (at least when it comes to waitlists ) they’ll probably be releasing OOS/Int first. In state would probably be pushed into May.
I saw someone post on Reddit that they were admitted (in-state) today, but I haven’t seen a huge wave so who knows if it’s true
@zoeh1322 Yeah I just saw that too. I’m on the UCSD waitlist and haven’t gotten anything yet but apparently none from my major have yet so fingers crossed there too.
apparently someone got off the waitlist on reddit just now. my portal didn’t change though
I just got off the waitlist!! I’m an in-State applicant for a physics major. Feel free to ask any questions:D
