UCI waitlist

right now they are basically waiting to finish admitting the last of the few freshman and will continue to make decisions on transfer students. as for the waitlisters you probably will not be notified(if you haven’t already been notified of your waitlist termination by june/july) till late june or july if you have been granted admission. those numbers seem to be in the singal digits this year. sorry about the horrid news but i hope this put alot of you at ease and save some of your time(wasting time on gathering and writing appeals). good luck class of 2014

^I hope you mean appealers and not wait listers because UCI said they’d notify us by May 15 the latest, and all off the 333 people who chose to be on the wait list last year were eventually accepted. I am sure you meant the people who are appealing though :]

yes, the appealers have virtually 0% of being granted admission because the waitlisters in front of them, but the admissions counselor we know also said that over 55000 applicants applied to irvine compared to the 44000 from last year which was huge increase. also, with this years(2010-2011) budget decreasing even more from last year’s the number of waitlisters will be much greater than 333 and the number of admits from that list of waitlisters(x > 333) will be much lower. i am sorry to say that it isn’t looking good for the waitlisters. :(

Just to get things straight,

[UCI faces record enrollment demand - College Life OC : The Orange County Register](http://collegelife.freedomblogging.com/2010/01/15/uci-faces-record-enrollment-demand/14555/)

There were 54,348 applicants last year. 59,657 applicants this year. Not a dramatic 44,000~55,000 increase, which is unproportional in every way. Along a 77 million dollar budget cut from last year. Therefore it is likely that there may be a smaller chance than last year of making UCI from the waitlist this year.

However, it would be na

paperthin,

i am just giving information from one of the chief officers that our family knows. when she talked about the appeals process and how they don’t even have time or room for them because of their budget/space constraints. she said that in past years around this time, there is a committeeof senior staff admissions officers selected as the “appeals committee” ready to address the couple thousand appeals. this year, since they are so late in making decisions on not only frshmen apps but the transfers as well, they havent even had a chance to establish the committee yet and likely won’t. she said that many of the assistants will be looking through the pile of appeals to evaluate and bring attention to any worthy and just cases. thats why i said the appeals have a virtual 0% of being granted and are, in essence, replaced by the current waitlist that many UCs implemented are practicing this year.

hey bballplyrref, plead with ur family friend to be really nice and let in more than 75% of the waitlisters please atleast! lol or atleast tell her associates to!

haha… ya man im trying as hard as i possibly can… im waiting patiently jus like you guys too… this college admissions stuff is ridiculous.

Yes grill her for as much info as you can and keep all of us waitlisters updated :]

bballplyrref ur waitlisted for uci too?!

yea man… uc gpa 3.7, 27 act, extra currics: 7/10, chicano/latin studies major, i know a couple profs there and we have the family friend so i hope all those add up to get me in :D… you guys?

ohh and SAT IIs i got 630 on eng. lit and a 580 on US hist.

i’m asking for a friend here who was waitlisted for uci. i think it was mentioned in a few threads about the process of waitlists how the adcoms go back and review everyone on it. because they’re reviewing the waitlisted applicants does it mean that even if there is space that there’s a possibility waitlisters can be rejected because of their stats? thanks.

Yeah, I got waitlisted at UCI, and I want to go there. My stats:

GPA (weighted): 3.99
SAT I: 2080
EC: barely any
SAT II: (US History) 720
(Eng. Lit) 680
(French) 600

I want to apply for housing, because I need to live on campus in order to attend, but the guaranteed housing needs to be submitted by May 1, but we’ll be noticed by May 15. Does this mean I forfeit my garunteed housing? I REALLY need to live on campus…I hope I get in, though.

^ I believe that the UC’s (not just Irvine) are cutting class sizes, so there should be more openings (?). Last year, the class 2013 had openings in both freshman dormming areas. I could’ve chosen to live in the dorms again, but I assume that b/c of the budget cuts the same scenario will still apply.

I suggest you call housing/admissions to be safe!

my first choice was uc irvine which i got waitlisted to. If we get waitlisted and then accepted what are our chances of getting financial aide

Hey emishap. can you keep us posted on that info as i need to know also. i need to dorm there.

so far I’ve heard two things regarding housing for accepted wait listed students. Most people were notified after May 1, but someone told me that the university pushed the date back for her. However, many others are saying there was plenty of dorm spaces last year and there was room for all of the wait listed kids. Basically, I’ve been told not to worry.

^^ ok that sounds good. but what about the housing preferences like the location and choice of roomate? how is that handled? does anyone know?

bballplyrref, do you know how many are on the UCI waitlist?

also do you know how they will review the waitlist group? Is it by major or what?

sigh waitlisted for UCI and UCSD, reject from UCSB and UCD… no choice but to admit to csu long beach now…

ok still confused about the whole waitlist process. if i submitted my SIP and i eventually get in will i HAVE to go to UCI or can i still choose to go to another school? And also it is necesarry to commit to another school correct?
