UCLA 2013 Regents?

They don’t seem very organized this year…

The exact same thing happened to me. Letter was addressed to me, but the name on the certificate was someone else’s.

Maybe you got my certificate. Haha

It’s a possibility…unless they mixed up more than just ours. I’ve been calling the Financial Aid office but no one is getting back to me.

Hi everyone,

We will almost certainly be notified by e-mail after 4pm today or tomorrow. If you go to the UCLA Regents website, you will notice that there is a note for 2013 transfer students regarding the delay.

[Regents Scholar Society at UCLA](<a href=“UCLA Regents Scholar Society”>UCLA Regents Scholar Society)

You will also notice that there is a planned program for prospective members on May 30 of this year. Unfortunately, the link for the “Transfer” itineraries does not work. I believe that this link will be functioning before they send out the information. It would make sense that this information is made available so that students can immediately register for the program, which is two weeks away, after they receive the invite.

I have been checking the RSS website for updates all week. Good luck to everyone!

Do you guys know if we need to have our FAFSA filled out? I haven’t made one yet and I was wondering if that could jeopardize my eligibility for the Regents :/

No, you only need to fill out the FAFSA in order to qualify for the need-based part of the award. Everyone qualifies for a $2,000 scholarship, regardless of financial need.

I got another letter from UCLA today. Unfortunately, it had nothing to do with scholarships.

It looks like we will find out the results tomorrow, which makes sense considering the way the UCLA financial aid department has functioned in the past. Has anyone heard otherwise?

I’ve heard nada. Grrr.

Same here but I have high hopes for tomorrow - they’d have to be shameless to make us wait until Monday

Shameless indeed! LOL. I suppose when you get a record number of apps to sift through, which would also lead to a record number of financial aid applications to sort as well, things take longer than expected. It’s not just the regents awarding/ranking they have to deal with. There’s financial aid implications as well.

Fingers crossed!!!

If we all get in, drinks are on me.

Anyone get an email?

Just asked a financial aid lady at the Bruin Bound Transfer Reception, notifications will be going out next week for the Regents

god damitt

Did she say which day next week?

Oh awesome, let’s tell students they do or do not have a GINORMOUS scholarship… ONE WEEK before everything is due! Brilliant!

She said she doesn’t know which day but just that it is taking longer than expected  Sorry guys I’m frustrated too haha

Oh it’s taking LONGER than expected? I hadn’t noticed that at all. I often wait till the day before things are due to make decisions…

Are they hoping possible Scholars will drop out? Do they check SIR’s when making decisions? Are they trying to discourage students by showing them just how inefficient they are capable of being?

I spoke to those two manning the scholarship and awards booth at today’s event; they told me they didn’t know when decision would go out, and then offered me Alejandra’s contact info, which of course we all already have. I’m glad @rshota got better info than I did. I got the big ‘meh’.

The answer to this question is what I went to this event for in the first place. I felt like I was going to a sales presentation for something I already bought.

Regents is a huge motivating factor for me, so if I don’t get the regents offer from UCLA, I’m not sure where I’ll be going this fall.

I noticed that the UCLA website states that transfer students have historically held a cumulative 4.0, but it seems like if there are not enough applicants with a 4.0, students with 3.8+ will be invited to compete (just as long as the application is offered to the top 600 transfer students).

Obviously, not all 600 students will apply. But I wonder how large the application pool is this year? I found a past post, where one person described 50 transfer spots for 350 applicants. 50 spots sounds high, but I guess by that point the admissions office knows exactly how many freshman regents will attend, and simply make up the difference with transfer students. With that being said, it makes sense that the amount of spots available for transfer students is directly correlated to the amount of freshman regents that accept the regents offer. This would explain the variation between the number of freshman and transfer students who are offered the regents scholarship each year. With that being said, hopefully a lot of the freshman applicants denied the offer this year.

Just wondering how many regents applicants have maintained a 4.0? I would imagine that between similar applications, students with the 4.0 would have the edge. I’m a CA resident with a 4.0 GPA and UCLA TAP certification.
