…

wat

You’re overqualified.

No but seriously. Im sure you’ve been traveling a lot. Id cut that down a bit and focus more on school. Boost your GPA as much as you can, well over the 4.0 range. The ECs are impressive but can only take you so far. After all there’s only like 5 or so max activities you can fill out on the application. The stats look very nice for a private school though, if that tickles your fancy.

I agree with the last poster. Your EC’s are impressive and many but you have a very limited amount of space on the application for ec’s. You have to pick the 5 that were the most meaningful/impressive so you will not be able to mention most of what you posted here. You may be able to write very interesting essays though considering your experiences. Your SAT scores are good and as I said ec’s are good but you GPA is well below what is being admitted to UCLA right now (3.8 - 4.5 weighted). I would consentrate on boosting you GPA. Possibly take one less AP class or just make sure you can get A’s in all classes to get that GPA up. I think if you have only a 3.7 weighted GPA it won’t be good enough. And possibly consider some private schools that look at the whole application a bit more.

I would actually recommend taking more AP classes. Like I said if you skip doing the part time job, being a tutor, the internship, etc you will have more time for school. I know it might seem as a big cut from your life, but education comes first and you gotta concentrate on that. AP courses would actually help you if you can do well in the class; you could really use some weighted GPA points.

GPA : 3.65 UW / 3.7 W

UCs care too much about gpa, to let that slip. I agree your ECs are beyond amazing, but UCLA cares too much for numbers. I’d even say you have a better shot at top privates that are more “prestigious” than UCLA. Your GPA is far too low. 92%+ of admitted students this year had a weighted gpa of 4.0 or higher.

[Profile of Admitted Freshmen, Fall 2009 - UCLA Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.admissions.ucla.edu/prospect/adm_fr/Frosh_Prof09.htm)

Like all the above posters said, definitely work on your GPA. Your ECs are impressive (but you can only list 5 ECs on your app.), SAT score is good, but GPA is way below average. Definitely get it up higher.

Bump your GPA by 100 basis points, take more SAT II, and you have a chance at HYPS. For UCLA, try your best to improve by at least 40-50 basis points

If this person is currently in 11th grade, how are they supposed to raise their GPA? All they can do now is take the hardest possible workload in 12th, raise the SAT and write great essays.

Considering how good your SAT scores are already, the main thing to focus on is the essays (and it looks like you have plenty of material to work with).

sorry but what are basis points?

To be honest, I would tell you to redirect your interests into an Ivy League School. You’re more likely to get in there. You’re SAT I and II are great…but that GPA does fall short a tad bit. UCs but GPA in front of EVERYTHING…so I would suggest Cornell, Claremont Colleges, Emory…ect.

Aim for some private schools.

your ec’s= beast mode

Through high marks in this current semester/quarter or summer school. However, the recommended raise in GPA will be a reach.

A basis point is 1/100 point in the GPA scale.

Hell, you have a pretty good shot at Julliard if that even interests you.

Naw, I can’t see myself at a conservatory :P

Plus I like the girls here at UCLA. Asian pride :)

trust me, youre in.

my friend had 3.6uw,3.8w with 1850 sat and MUCH MUCH weaker EC’s, and got in
another had a 3.5uw, 3.7w with 1690 sat little ec’s, and got in
another had a 3.8uw, 4.1w WITH A 1500 sat and almost no EC’s, and got in…
I mean, they had other things that got them in, but still…bad, BAD STATS…(you definitely made up for it in other departments)

Honestly, id be surprised if you didn’t get in, esp. with the breast cancer explaining the C’s…

But WOW, your ECs and to an extent SATs should get you into ALOT of top 20 schools

Another factor that plays a role in the admissions is your location (are you in state, out of state, or international?)

i’m in orange county

Location doesn’t matter that much. The three most important factors admissions look at are GPA, SAT scores, and ECs (including your personal statements). Location, your high school reputation, and other things doesn’t really have any significant impacts on admissions.

bump please
