UCLA 2018 Transfer Appeals

Hi, I’m hoping that this discussion will allow those of us who have been recently rejected by UCLA, as transfer students, to share information. What are you guys basing your appeals on? What major are you applying as? Here’s to hoping for the best …

Hello!

I hope to get into Business Economics at UCLA through appealing hopefully I can.

Anyway I will be writing about what I have done since the application process, specifics about UCLA (things I’m interested in), and why its a good fit for me.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!

I’m thinking about writing an appeal. I’m not sure how it will work for me since I applied to Architectural Studies and admission is based on a portfolio.

Hi have any of you submitted your appeal?

I’m planning to submit soon.

I haven’t submitted yet. Maybe by the end of the weekend /:

I appealed my decision last year and was accepted. I had a 4.0 and applied as Psych major. Was missing a prereq and which is why I thought was rejected. Now attending Cal where I was waitlisted.

Happy to answer any questions.

I submitted mine on May 1st I had a counselor read my appeal.

@108Degrees when did you hear back?

@108Degrees were you taking that last pre req during the spring? And wat pre req was it

@socampo UCLA appeals decision came very late - July 13, 2017. They gave me about 4 days to decide. They sent an email and the portal also reflected the same with an option to accept or deny.

@americajm it was Chemistry. I registered for it final semester, but dropped it as my coursework was getting too overloaded. For some reason I thought when checking their Psychology site that I could get away with a few missing pre-reqs, but would be admitted as pre-psych. I was wrong in my read. I explained this as well in my appeal.

I was told later that applications aren’t even looked at seriously if you miss a pre-req. That can actually work in your favor when appealing. I also added some UCLA specific info in the appeal like interest in writing for the Daily Bruin (I have won several writing awards) and interest in research with specific profs (you can look up the department site and find ones doing work close to your areas of interest).

@108Degrees I took my second to last pre req (Bio) during the winter quarter and got an A which brought my gpa up to a 3.85. I am currently taking my last pre req right now. Would that still make me a less competitive candidate

@americajm you get a chance to update your app with your winter grades. I presume you did that before the deadline? If so 3.85 would have been the GPA they would have considered on your app.

Are you appealing now? If so, you should include grades of courses in progress. However you will need more than that, like some additional info missing from your app which makes your application worthy of a reconsideration.

I was only able to report my fall quarter grades during the time of update. My winter quarter ended late March and I didn’t receive grades until early April. However I did mention on my appeal that my gpa did upsurge to a 3.85 with that pre req.

Hey guys things are not going well for me…I decided to stay at cc for another year (family problems), and now well i wanted to withdraw my appeal but I don’t know if I can do that. It was a let down to not get in, but this is kinda ironic lol, I really don’t want to get accepted and not be able to go. Do you guys know if you can withdraw your appeal?

Submitted my appeal on 5/5 I really hope to hear back before July :open_mouth:

Goodluck to everyone appealing. You guys are all probably exceptional students. If ucla doesn’t work out I’m sure you guys are bound for success at whatever school you plan on attending.

@socampo don’t think it matters. Who knows by the time your appeal comes through whether you will be able to accept or not. Don’t think it will impact your chances next time you apply whether you leave your appeal open or try to withdraw it.

Anyone else appealing?

I’m appealing too! On assist it said there were no courses articulated for my major to satisfy a specific prereq, so I didnt’ take anything, and they expected me to take another course at my school that could’ve satisfied the requirement…even though it’s not listed on assist? Weird stuff man. Good luck to everyone!

We’re you able to get a reason as to why you were denied?
