Hi all i'm a junior in high school and soon to be overwhelmed by a the arduous college application process. I would really appreciate it if someone can give me some insight on my chances of getting into UCLA and assuage my fears. i really want to get in. sigh umm as usual here are my stats as best as i can remember them off the top of my head
I plan on majoring in International Studies, economics, or political science

question: is it true that in applying for UCLA regardless of major it's good to take the SAT MATH level 2?

Those are a lot of AP's. Most UC's like to see sat2 math 2, so you should take it early next year. UCLA look's like a match for you. Those sat 1 scores are good enough for berkeley too (but if you want 2000+ go for it).

impressive. ^ I didn't take SAT II math IIC and got in. They want two sat II's of your choice. For now, I'd say slight reach... your sat I is low. Find your UC GPA and come back when you get your sat II scores. That will help us out.

D was accepted for UCLA this fall. Her gpa was very similar to yours, but she only took 4 APs and lots of honor classes, but her SAT was 2130. She took the SAT II Math 2 and scored 660, 720 on Lit. She also had a huge number of ECs, including varsity volleyball, musicals, clubs, church volunteer work, etc. My advice would be to raise your SATs. That would be your best shot. She took them 3 times with no prep course and improved each time.

Yeah, my scores were kind of low, but I still managed to squeeze my way through admissions.

My UC GPA was about 3.95 (3.58 unweighted) and my SATII Math 2c was only about 630 (I took it twice and got the same score...(my other was USHis=700)).

Plus, I only took 2APs during junior year, but I'm taking 4 now.

So, no worries, just try raising some scores and write some great essays for the UC app.

Your extra curriculars, especially the published books, will help you with privates. If you're able to bring up your SAT score in the 2100-2200 range, I bet you could get into a few Ivies. I'm speaking from personal experience from high school.

I can second that, I got into all of those (didn't apply to Georgetown) with the equivalent of a 34 on the ACT... you should be fine at both Cal and UCLA.
