Yes my daughter got an invite too. AAP has it’s own website and it looks interesting. My D is going to the Scholar’s Day to hear what it’s all about.

Academic Advancement Program is UCLA’s version of the EOP. You must check off the “applying to EOP” box on the UC application to be eligible for consideration.

im dont remember checking that one. but i still got the invite… i dont think im a minority really… im filipino… we make out a good portion of the UC and CSU student body… hmmm…

perhaps, it is because im a veteran and didnt make that much money?

So at Scholars Day they were suppose to give out the information on FSP. Im currently a UCLA student who did FSP my freshman year, and now, a girl I mentored in high school would like to do the program as well. However, she came late and ended up going to the wrong event. Does anyone have the website or the directions on how they are suppose to sign up.

I got the invite, and I’m not a minority; I’m white. I am a veteran though, and on the website it says they offer programs oriented towards “diverse populations who have been historically underserved by higher education,” so I think their scope is broader than ethnicity. I did not check the box for EOP, and I do not come from a low-income family either.

The people who are invited to AAP are determined by the UCLA registrars office. People at AAP have no idea how they determine this, they just send us a list and thats who we send invites to.

EVERYONE is allowed to apply to the program. The main criteria for entry is that you are seeking help and require the resources we offer. Ex: you are struggling in statistics and need tutoring or you don’t know general education or graduation requirements, etc.
We provide tutoring, graduate mentoring (if you want to go to grad school), counseling, peer counseling and are generally nicer than departmental counselors and staff.

We also offer a summer program for Transfer Students and Freshman that helps students get a head start and learn about the university environment. Its cheaper (free for some) than the Chancellors summer program which requires that you pay most of the tuition for their summer program.

Keep in mind that the AAP program is federally funded and is required to adhere to federal standards. It is required to do a certain amount of outreach and recruitment, which is why some got an invite and others didn’t - but we do not discriminate against gender, class, sexuality or ethnicity.
