Calendars: Academic & Administrative 2009-2010

I'm an incoming UCLA student so can someone answer some of my questions regarding the UCLA academic calendar?

Do the holidays such as Veteran's Day and Memorial Day mean that there are no classes on those dates?

What is the Common Final exams and how does it differ from Final Examination?

Are students allowed to go home early during Final's week if the students finish all their exam before the end of the week?

During the Winter Break is there housing for those who wish to stay for an intern or research?

Thanks ahead of time.

Yes, no school on Veteran’s Day and Memorial Day. However, I believe classes are still in session during the Cesar Chavez holiday.

I don’t know the difference in terminology, but generally it’s the same courses each quarter which take the finals on the weekend before finals week (Saturday, Sunday). Could be due to room availability for final exam.

Yes, the student(s) have the choice whenever to leave.

Yes, the fee will be about $500. No meals included though.
Here was last year’s announcement: [2008 Winter Break Check-out Instructions (1001827)](http://map.ais.ucla.edu/portal/site/UCLA/menuitem.789d0eb6c76e7ef0d66b02ddf848344a/?vgnextoid=e2df33b3611fe010VgnVCM200000dd6643a4RCRD)

Wait… If were already set up to live in th dorms, do we need to pay extra or leave for winter break?

Yes. the fee is for the dorms. During Winter Break only, you must vacate if you do not pay the stayover fee (most people will return home, so they shut it down).
