I am currently a senior and I live in Florida. I would also be considered a minority…Hispanic. I have good grades and was wondering if there is anything that would give me an advantage/ edge on getting into UCLA. I know it’s super competitive. Also is there a major that would give me a better shot at getting in? I would play sports but their XC team is fairly competitive.
The California UC’s do not consider URM status so no advantage there. For UCLA, you want a high UC GPA, rigorous HS courses, high SAT/ACT scores, some good EC’s with leadership and good essays to complete your application package. See how you compare to the averages from this year’s Freshman class and you can basically see if you are on target. Since you are OOS, be aware that you will get no financial aid so expect to pay around $55K/year if you plan to attend.

The OOS acceptance is a bit higher for UCs, probably because they expect OOS to pay full tuition and they’re strapped for cash
