UCLA accepted! maintaining grades..

congrats to you guys who made it!

I got in and my contract says to maintain the same gpa and report any Ws, Ds or Fs. Seems like they dont want to know about Cs.

Last quarter I got a C+ in physics 4b. Thats okay right?

What if i get another C?? I heard some people getting rescinded because of that. the ucla counselor told me i can get C's but I cant lower my gpa. That doesnt make sense to me.

It pretty much means don’t let your GPA plummet, and unless you fail your classes, you should be fine.

what if you dropped a class and got a W, but it wasn’t something you needed for IGETC or major? what do you think?

^ that sounds fine to me. You can call them and ask though.

Mann I cant relax until i get satisfying grades for this quarter.

Guys - I was accepted with a 3.8 gpa. I’m in 4 classes right now, and I’m sure I can’t get above a B in one of them (precalc). If I get one B and three A’s, this semester’s GPA will be 3.75, which will bring my overall gpa down below a 3.8!

Will I get rescinded!? How does this work?

people getting rescinded for a C?

Here is a good tip i have gotten from old transfer admits. Get better than a 3.0 for Spring and dont have anything lower than a C

^yeah that sounds what theyre looking for. They never said anything about reporting a C so they dont care about that.

what bout if you get a W but you already did your IGETC

but what if getting one C puts you below a 3.0? should you report that?

maintaining gpa doesn’t make sense
what about those applied with 4.0’s? :P

thats EXACTLY what i was thinking. They want us to maintain a 3.8 gpa or whatever, but Cs are okay? uhh

It’s likely vague so they can maintain their control over your admittance, yet leave some room for special cases and natural variance. If you have >3.5, I’d make sure to get no less than a 3.5. If you have >3.0, I’d make sure to get no less than a 3.0. A 4.0 student suddenly getting all C’s and B’s could raise an eyebrow or two…

^ you always show up when sense is needed.

what about a getting a W instead of getting a C. I did all my prereqs and IGETC. its a math class

If it is just an irrelevant class, you’re fine
though I’d say still report it

Unless your Provisional Admission Contract specifies the GPA you must maintain, having a B average will be fine.

You need to report any classes you dropped, regardless of whether they are required. Follow the instructions in the Provisional Admission Contract to the letter; now is not the time to annoy the admissions office.

last quarter i dropped a class and got a w, but this quarter i’m retaking it. its not required for ucla, but i still wanted to take it. should i let the office know?

It’s probably a wash, but I would suggest notifying UCLA just to be on the safe side. They can’t give you a hard time for being diligent!

UCLA freaks me out. I called, and I’m just verifying the whole “Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates. You must be in good standing at your last institution of attendance” thing, and she was SUPER vague with me…

She said something along the lines of “if you think your drop in GPA is significant (which I don’t anticipate happening) then you need to submit (some form) telling us about your GPA drop.”

So, basically, just do well this semester and pray they wont rescind you for a tiny GPA drop?! Why wouldn’t they just give us “3.0” for the semester or some set number. Gaaaah. I feel like I have to wait to submit my SIR 'til after the semester ends.
