UCLA Achievement Award Scholarship

I'm getting ~$7000/yr for two years from UCLA for this scholarship, and it was totally unexpected. Not that I'm complaining! Apparently it's need based (I didn't think I had all that much "need", so it's surprising) and given to applicants with good grades. The description I got in the email is:

You were selected because of your exceptional academic performance and for your outstanding promise as a scholar. We are honored that you are considering becoming a Bruin and we hope to hear from you in the next few weeks that you are enrolling at UCLA. You will receive a revised Provisional Award Letter (ePAL) from the UCLA Financial Aid Office later this week.

Just for reference, I had a 4.0 for all my time at CC.

Did anyone else get this? :)

Edit: I submitted my SIR to UCLA on May 1.

I got a certificate but i never saw anything about money. I think its just the cal grant right? Or is this something extra? I need to check it again

Gift Aid
UCLA Achievement Scholarship $9,200
Federal Pell Grant $5,550
Scholarship Recognition Award $4,593
Cal Grant $11,124

Total Gift Aid = $30,467

sounds too good to be true. Is one of these taken away when the eFAN comes out?

I got it too… 9200 per year for 2 years. That was the remainder of my need.

2 years of college without having to work? This is seriously a dream come true…

I LOVE YOU UCLA!!! <333

I also had a 4.0, for reference.

:D

I’m pretty sure it’s different from the Cal Grant. It’s the only gift aid I have listed, if that gives any clarification.

I got it. I was dead set on Cal but now I’m seriously torn. :(

This is kind of interesting that many people got it. Does this mean UCLA is much richer than the rest of the UCs? Apparently all 4.0s have a chance.

I never got one. 3.84 gpa

Now I’m getting kind of nervous because it says that we will get a revised ePal later this week… can it get revised beyond the addition of the scholarship? That would suck if they would take away some other aid in place of this scholarship… :/

IndieRockNRoll:

My ePal is already revised to reflect the award. My initial gift offer is the same as before.

“This prestigious scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the Lincy Foundation, which donated $200 Million to create the UCLA Dream Fund earlier this year.”

Mine is the same phantom. That’s why I was hoping it wouldn’t get updated beyond this. I guess it wouldn’t make sense if it did.

For now, I’ll be happy :D

I just got this email as well… I checked my provisional financial aid award and the $9200 is now reflected in it. I believe that it is different from Cal grant. However, I am also weary about the revised ePal that I’ll be getting. This is so tempting, especially because I’ve been trying to decide between UCLA and Cal… Either way, it was so uplifting to know that I got this award!! Congratulations to those of you who also got it!!

It’s basically a full ride, if there was any doubt about going to UCLA, there shouldn’t be any now.

Whoooooooooooooooooo!!!

By the way,
I submitted my SIR on 4/29.

What is the GPA needed to be eligible for this scholarship?

Not sure, but it seems like everybody with 4.0’s is getting it.

i dont have a 4.0

I am happy that I am going to UCLA in the fall though :)

4.0 here

I got it today as well, covering the remaining $9200 I was going to get in loans.

Now

Total Gift Aid: $30,467

4.0 isn’t required, I got it with a 3.94.
